Gale force winds and rain arrived early and we gave up without even trying to fish for Coho.
Weather report last evening said 15 mph winds at dawn increasing to 40 mph by 3:00 pm. By the time we launched our boat at 6:45 in the extra dark rainy morning, the forecast was for gale force winds by 10:00 AM. No sweat. We will be back before then with a limit of Coho.
Rain and waves increased as we tried to slam and pound our way to where the Coho were reported yesterday. My raincoat zipper failed. I was wearing a long sleeved hooded synthetic T-shirt, warm acrylic wool shirt, and a Columbia rain coat. I needed one more layer of hooded fleece. On the bottom I had synthetic long johns, wool pants, Grunden commercial fisherman high bib rain pants and tall insulated Muck boots.
At 7:20 we gave up on getting out to where we wanted to fish, and NOAH warned of gale force winds by 8:00 AM. Time to head for the barn. We trolled for a few minutes as we neared the safe harbor and got a mackerel. None of us had ever caught a mackerel so I kept it. As the water calmed in the harbor approach a bunch of dolphins or porpoises escorted us in. (They look like all black small killer whales.)
I was cold, wet, bedraggled. :laf: I never took my phone camera out of it's Ziploc.
Back when I was a young stallion I used to love to hunt and fish in the rain. Fly fishing for trout the rain put them in a feeding frenzy. Hunting out in the big woods the rain soaked the leaves so you could move through the woods like an Apache ghost.
Now when it's raining outside I hit the couch and watch Gunsmoke lol.
