I had a great time at the 70th annual PA Trappers rendezvous and sold a few calls to boot. Here are a couople of pics from my first public display. It needs a lot of work, but I have some great ideas for the next show I do. I'll post some of the calls that I have left from the show in the store. Don't worry, the turkey calls were the big seller for some reason. I still have a great selection of predator calls to choose from. My total finish was 19 calls in 3 days and 5 orders for some that I didn't have on hand. I am pretty happy with that for the first show. Anyway, here are the pics of my setup...any constructive criticism is much appreciated

AHHHHHH cmom Jim.......it sure looks like a Heiny to me. :eyebrow:
Looks great to me!! GJ!!!!
Joe
Nice display and I am glad that you had a good show and sale. Just getting your work out for others to see helps.
That isn't beer. That is one of the new "all critter" calls. (Saying that should work. Withing a week there will be "all critter" calls being posted somewhere.) :innocentwhistle:
Jerry
Nice looking set up! Glad you did well.
We will be up in Ohio at the state trappers meet in Sept with a booth and I will be doing a seminar on Friday eve. I'm looking forward to getting up there and meeting some of those guys and seeing what kind of interest a predator calling seminar draws for the trappers. Should be allot of fun!
Did you all have a good turn out?
Brent

Now I can tell my wife that Jim is driving me to drink - you're a bad influence man
Steve
Brent,
Our attendance this year was down a bit, we had approximately 1,800 through the gate. Dave Dunbar from Critter Busters did a calling demo on Saturday, I didn't get to see it or talk to him afterwards, so I'm not sure how it went. I did drop you name to a few people regarding your video. Hopefully they check out your website and shoot you an order or two.
Steve
Hate to hear that the attendance was down, wonder if that was due to it being summer time? I will give Dave a call and see how it went for him there.
Thanks for the referrals! Its much appreciated!
Brent
Dont tell her I drove you to drinkin THAT stuff. :puke:
Did you smuggle that in from somewhere, or I mean does the FDA know someone is still bottling that stuff and passing it as beer?
You did the right thing working it with two people but I would cut it down to one table. I know it will look more cluttered but it will be easier to keep an eye on that way. It's also easier to make eye contact with all the potential cusomers watching you demo calls. And yes you will sell more turkey calls for some reason even at fall meets so be prepared for that if you do another this fall .
Keekee. You will enjoy the show and will have a fair amount of interest in sept. Bad thing is your seminar will be on friday night. Too many will be taking care of Momma first so they can spend on saturday  Prepare an outline and stick to it. Let them know they can ask questions at the end of it. And believe me they will ask more than you can handle :eyebrownod: If the seminar were on saturday you could expect around 200 , maybe more, to sit in. If you have a way of running that video do it. And have plenty of calls on hand. They will even pull calls out of their pockets and ask you how they should work. So have at least one open reed howler in your pocket for demo purposes. Oh, and let them know that the way you blow a call is just your style, your not having a heart attack :laf: Jimmie
I am working on a slide show now to go with my different seminars. Bad thing is I haft to shell out 500.00 for a projector to hook to my laptop! I have been speaking or doing seminars for several year, done more on Turkeys than anything. And I have done a ton of sport shows, dating back to the turkey call business days. I'm use to dealing with the public in sport shows. I have seen some wild things come out of someones pocket! JD got a good idea of how things go in Columbus last fall at the deer and turkey expo. We plan on doing several shows this year. And are looking into a good fold up booth with big flat screens to go with it, and do away with the small TV/DVD players we are using now. Bad part is it cost big bucks!
I got Power point presentations worked up for several topic now, just need to finish them up before Sept.
Good thing is, it will be a good investment. I am starting to get calls on speaking appearances from Ohio, PA, AL, and even AZ. Bad thing is I haft to take time off work to do them.
Brent

Brent,
I bet if you don't have the money to dish out now, you could probably rent or lease one from somewhere.
ND
If it were me I would have a folding panel setup with one of those wipe off marker boards built in it for show and tell. Easy to keep clean and portable. That is what they have been doing slide show and movie presentations at th college on. Not real expensive either. One side could have pegboard in it for dispaly purposes. Of course if you are working a big room then a white wall would come in handy. I had completely forgot about your turkey call bussiness and the competitions.
My friend I do these with has been at it for years as well. He keeps a novelty call he built in his pocket. The tiniest slate call you have ever seen and the blasted thing sounds beautiful. So no matter what they come out with he can top them :eyebrownod: Jimmie

What do you expect for Christ sake,,after all it could be a Canadian Beer called "Red Frog" :puke: :puke: :puke: I would rather hear the word Moosehead than Red Noodle
And KeeKee
Where is the Ohio Trappers convention held ??? Columbus ???
and Coulter,,you have some NICE CALLS right there on that table !!! :highclap: Hmmm I dont have a Crow call yet :wo:
Thank you
Bob
Thanks Bob..I have a couple of crow calls left...what's yer pleasure?
Brent, I just might have to come down to the OSTA convention. The last one I went to was in Coshocton. Man that place stinks :puke:
Maybe I can pick up my howler from you there :eyebrow:
Well, I would like to see you come down! Looks like we may camp up there. We will have a camp fire, and some cold beer for sure! And the conversation will be predators I am sure! :shck:
If you want to come down drop me a line we can set up camp together, or get a couple booth side by side! Hell, we might be able to get Bill in there some were! He says he is coming down as well! :sneer:
And I am sure I can have that howler done by then!
Brent
Brent,
When and where is the convention this year? I haven't been to one for several years and it the calendar is open may try to make it.
Jerry

Brent
Sounds like a good time to set up a Fins and Fur member meeting. Now all we need is a sponsor to cover the refreshments! Hey Jim, you are invited.
Jerry
Brent;
Going to try like hell to get to the OSTA meet also. Maybe I could pick up my howler at the same time :yoyo:

Holly shite
That is in My Back yard !!! :shck: its even closer to Hamer's back yard ;yes;
are you guys driving up to it everyday or are you guys gettin a Hotel ???
Brent,do you know the admission fees? it would probably be me and my 2 Boys IF I get down there to the Fairgrounds?
so do they cover ALL trapping ? and are you the only one giving a Predator calling seminar ???
thank you very much
Bob
Red Dog,
I can probably do that as well!
Bob,
As far as I know I am the only one giving a calling seminar there. But there will be other speakers on Trapping and most of the time they have a biologist there as well. The cover allot of trapping topic's and there will be some very good trappers there to get info from, and allot of supplies as well.
We will camp I would say unless they have a cheap hotel close by some were, but it would haft to be close. To far for me to drive every day. Looks like about 5 hrs for me.
Brent
You have to camp at one of these events to get the full effect :innocentwhistle: They are a great time and some of the nations top trappers do the demos. I have seen demos at these things from turtle trapping to coyote trapping and everything in between. I don't know what this particular show will offer, but that is half the fun of going...you just never know.
Brent,
I think I will probably be heading down for this show, it only looks to be a couple hours for me. Unfortunately, I won't be able to get there until Friday afetrnoon. I'll bring a few calls with me, but I doubt if I'll set up since I'll be getting there so late. I'd be happy to hang out with ya a your booth for a while. Save me a spot at your camp sight and a place to set a couple chairs around the campfire. We can get our howlers out after a few drinks and begin the practice sessions at say midnight or so. That oughtta get some people stirred up  Hope to see you guys there.
Steve
Brent & Coulter
There is a Bar right outside of 1 gate and a Domino's Pizza Joint right outside of the other gate,,you guys will be closer to the BAR than you will be the Pizza shop  and ya MIGHT want to wear a Ballistic vest if your gonna stir the hillbillies after midnight :laf:
And there is a strip joint about 2 blocks up from the BAR entrance,,I have NEVER been in the tittie Bar because there are to many OTHER BARS that the girls put on the show for FREE ! shit,,now that I seen that in writing makes me wonder why I quit drinking :wo: damn I had fun when I was running around :yoyo: BUT I dont "HEAL" like I use to,so its probably a good thing I quit :doh2: maybe I can take a :holdon: :eyebrow:
Hamer is closer to the Fairgrounds than me so he may know more than me of the area ??? Vv is close and Bill isnt REAL FAR away :wo:
Brent
How did they pick the Dover Fairgrounds to hold this at ???
Bob
Bob,
It might be a better "showing" if you haven't been drinking. But then again, after several beers anything looks good. That might be the reason my limit is 3.
Jerry
Jerry
you could be EXACTLY RIGHT  BUT my Limit is 0,,I am the type that IF I have 1 beer,,then its ON,,because I CANT drink a certain number,,if I have 1 then Im drinking until "I'M GOOD" :laf: I usually have the oldest boy on SPEED DIAL if I go anywhere and drink,,that way he can come give me a ride home,,or come BAIL ME OUT of Jail :shck:
BUT maybe since I am OLD NOW maybe I could stop at 10,,,er uh I mean 2 :biggrin:of course I think the BIG reason I quit drinking is because I was TIRED of feeling like hell all the next day !!! :puke: :puke: :puke: like I said,,when I drank it wasnt just "a few" it was 10-15 ,,I really DONT miss those days :doh2:
Bob
Bob,
I dont know how they picked the spot to hold the meet? But sounds like it might not be a bad spot!
Brent
But sounds like it might not be a bad spot!
And that is just with the Fins and Fur members going!
Jerry
Brent it should only take you about 4 hours to drive to Dover
I do know some short cuts if you are interested
Hawk,
That's true! Should be several of us there, will be like a family get together!
Bill,
I am always interested in short cuts to save me driving time!
Brent
A Family get together WOW last time I was at a family get together there was biting kicking punching
Sounds like a great Time :laf:
I will right a a few directions and send them to ya Brent and you can look them over
There's a bunch of calls on that table....More than I turn in a couple of years. Impressive.
You gotta remind me when it's closer!! I'm a few minutes from there.
Hey Bob!! You suppose they chose the fairgrounds because it's so close to the hospital?? :roflmao: :roflmao:
QuoteHey Bob!! You suppose they chose the fairgrounds because it's so close to the hospital??
Thats not a bad thing. I was in charge of putting on the '04 PTA rendezvous and spent half the time on crutches from a severly sprained ankle...they still tease me about that and say I was dancing on tables  I don't remember anything like that.

Glen
I thought that too,,for a minute,,then I went back to: "I think they picked it because of the Tittie Bar and the
Brooklyn Grill being 20 feet from the Gate  BUT I forgot about the hospital being there,,Hmmmm :wo:it is central to ALL these things so it sounds to me that they should have it here EVERY YEAR :eyebrow:
I have NEVER been to one of these so I DONT KNOW what it is like at one of these ? sounds like a good time :innocentwhistle:
Brent ,,have you ever been to Kenton Coon Dog trials ??? I THINK they called it Leafy Oak too ??? I KNOW the Coon Dog Trials were wild :laf: sounds like fun,,I will have to come down and sit with Bill and see how this thing is run :wo:
BUT it does sound like a good thing :highclap: and I might have my 2 "Little" Boys with me :laf:
Bob
I'll bet that was a deciding factor too Bob!! :laf: :laf:
I have never been down to the coon dog trials, but have some friends that go to all the major ones. I have ran a few rabbit dog trials in the past. And a few Bird dog trials. They were all fun and I always had a very good time!
HaMer,
You don't want to miss the camp fire for sure!....lol
Speaking of camping, do they have a shower house there at the fair grounds? Looks like I will be there for 3 nights.
Brent
Brent,
They don't have any showers, but there is a sponge that they get wet and pass around. :roflmao:
Jerry
P.S. I don't really know.
Brent there is a shower there
And do we need a jug for the campfire I have some Tenn. sippin whiskey
I do wanna make it.
Are you absolutely certain the fair is not on that weekend?? Just checking.
The fair is the next to the last week in Sept
i thought it was at the end of September,,but when i read hamers ? it DID make me question myself :wo:
I just found out I have a Golf outing on that Sunday,,it is for my friend that died in Colorado of a Bowhunting accident
BUT i will probably/maybe make it down on Friday and Saturday ? it opens on Thursday doesn't it ???
Thank you
Bob
Jerry,
I am back woods but a sponge? We always just called it a hooker bath! ( Just being politically correct here )
I think set up is on Thursday, so we will be rolling in there some time that day to get the booth set up and camp. I don't need no jug though, just a cooler and some Bud Light for me! I want to say out of trouble you know! :eyebrownod: And every time I drink from a jug I end up with a black eye! :rolleye:
Brent
What I was told is set up starts at 4 pm on thursday
