Title: Bear and Hog Rifle Finished
Post by: FOsteology on July 17, 2007, 08:15:44 PM
Finished putting together another rifle for bears and feral hogs not long ago.

CZ 550 FS 9,3x62mm 20.5" barrel 1:9.5 twist and factory Irons.

Hill Country Rifles bedded and accurized it into a McMillan CZ AHR "McSwirly" (50% Tan 25% Olive 25% Dark Gray).

I had CZ-USA replace the plastic follower and floor plate for metal, and the c-clip single nut firing pin for the double nut assembly. Talley QD rings and a Burris Signature Select Safari 1.75-5x32mm LRS Fast Plex.

With five (5) 286gr. Nosler Partitions it weighs in at 8lbs 12.7oz.

Shoots just under MOA with the NP, and almost .650 with 250gr. TSX.  :yoyo:

More than likely this rig will make the trip out West this Sept. to hunt bears with Bearmanric.

So far I haven't had any complaints with the CZ rifles. They always seem to polish up nice, and end up shooting well.

I'll be heading back up to Washington this Sept. to hunt bears with Rick. I think this year we'll actually concentrate on bears, as the previous years we were calling mainly for cougar! Haven't seen any cougars, but Rick sure does pull those bobcats out of the forest!

The top one is a spotted fallow and the bottom is a bunch of springbok made into a small rug.

I think you best just lay it on the hood of the truck if you want us to really look at the gun.

Richard,

Good to see you here! I hope all is well with you. Next time you pass through Seguin, please let me know.

The 9,3x62mm is by far my favorite medium bore. I prefer it over the .375H&H. Smacks game animals with practically the same authority as the H&H, but felt recoil is less. To me, the 286gr. load feels similar to a heavily loaded (220gr.) 30-06.

The ballistics are as follows:

250gr. TSX @ 2620fps
BC .428
SD .267
MPBR 259 yards

286gr. Nosler Partition @ 2430fps
BC .482
SD .305
MPBR 244 yards

I currently have it sighted in 1" high @ 100 yards with the 250gr. TSX. In two weeks I'll be out in Washington state with Bearmanric. Hopefully  I'll be able to use it on a big 'ol bruin.
