I couldn't let this day go by without pics. Joe wanted to try his hand at making keepers for his lanyards and ended up making a call :shock2: He worked hard at this as you will see in the pics

Then worked really hard

And this what he ended up with

The day wasn't over there we had to go try it out
Dirty Dog can tell the rest
Thanks for a great day Joe
Yeeee hawwwwww...... let me first say thanks to Bill, for helping me make that call, and for everything else today (including breakfast) , and thanks to Chris for putting up with both of us. :roflmao:
Ok, so I started on the lathe a bit, and busted a couple or 5 stoppers. I finally figured out how to get the wood on there, and put on an old piece of orange osage that Bill had sitting around that had an off center hole in it. After I started turning it, I said "man that could easily be a call". Next thing you know, I have ole Bill throwing in a reed. :eyebrownod: After it was all done, we went out and I got a chance to blow it a bit. Sounds pretty dang good if I don't say so for myself. I also tried some chicken calls on it in the truck on the way home (I think I would make Bopeye proud). It is not the prettiest call, but I made it (and for me that is a big accomplishment), and I am gonna use it.
Bill,
Thanks again for your hospitality, you are first class all the way!
DirtyDog
Looks and sounds like another person is hooked on the lathe.
Jerry
Not so sure about making calls, but I most certainly will use it for lanyard stops.
I tried it once.....at Brents, I thought it was fun, but I'll never do it again. :nono: Not my cup of tea.
But I think ya did pretty good considering who was standing next to ya coaching the whole thing :roflmao: :laugh2:

THATS! gotta hurt, rubber boy! :laf:
I was paying really close to detail......not sure though because that does look painful.
Joe
Maybe its Just because I am Blind in 1 eye,,but DAMN,,use Safty Glasses, you think you have a hard time Judging Distance for Hunting now,,IF you lose Vision in 1 eye it takes YEARS to figure out how to do it,,and it is STILL HARD to do,,thats why I WISH I would have used my Seat Belt that one day :innocentwhistle:

QuoteMaybe its Just because I am Blind in 1 eye.....
Bob... I'm right there with you, my friend.
Some years ago, I was blinded in my right eye (dominate eye) due to an industrial accident. Over the years I have adapted (for the most part ) but it weren't no fun !
Like Bob said... use those safety glasses.
Not sure how I missed this thread.
The call looks real good for a first time call Joe. I'd be dang proud of it. :yoyo:
You do look uncomfortable in that second picture though..........look like a chickens neck or something...... :laf:
Oh......Bill........next time you use "Bite Me" without express written consent by me.......I'll give ya a swift kick in your Jimmies..... :roflmao:
:roflmao: :roflmao:
OK Bop,but you have to admit it did fit
Now Bill.......as your legal advisor (my brother is a lawyer  ), I say change it just a bit to like Bite MEE or BITE me, so that it will not infringe on his copyright. :roflmao:
All joking aside. Safety glasses are a MUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ask Jim, when he was here the first thing I handed him was glasses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had a piece of wood dug out of my eye a few years back and it was not no fun! And put a end to a three day weekend of turning calls.
And a respirator! A call every now and then is one thing but if you do this all the time, were a respirator! I watched my grand dad die from this! And it was not pretty! What you breath now WILL effect you in the future!
BE SAFE GUYS! BE SAFE!
Brent
He's not lying...and we werent even working on the lathe when he handed them to me. He was eating popcorn and talking to me... :laf:
Was there an excessive amount of alchohol involved also?
Not too bad..,not by me anyway. I was busy picking corn hulls outta my hair
