anyone have any experience with these? I often find myself torn between toting a rifle or a shotgun, and was wondering what your thoughts were on these combo guns, how much they cost, and how accurate they are...weight would be another concern.
yeah I have both the savage and the russian one. I would pick the russian one over the savage personally. my russian gun will shoot circles around the savage all day long. plus a little faster to change barrels after the first shot. the russian as double triggers I will post some more info on the russian one tonight. I know centerfire 223 has a russian one also.
Yep, I have one and for my style of hunting you can't beat it. I can consistently shoot one inch groups with the .223 and put 30 out of 41 buckshot in a target at 40 yards. I wouldn't take nothing for mine.
Yeah the russian one is the one I was looking at, haven't seen the savage one anywhere. Do yall use scopes on yours? I like my AR for the follow up shot or if more than one comes in, but if some money falls out of the sky I may be making a purchase.
I have a scope on mine. Finding mounts is a pain in the rear. I wound up drilling and tapping the rail and screwing down my mounts.
I got a simmons turkey scope on mine. it uses mounts that are supposed to be for airguns. they are all steel. to take it a step further I took the gun to work and drilled and pinned mine so they would not slid on the rails.
What is the brand name on that Russian combo?
Mine is a Bakail. I liked it better because it has double triggers instead of a selector switch.
ther is one on gunbroker right now under the name of spartan by remington
I toted the savage 24f for quiet awhile it was in 22hornet over 12ga. I used it in FL for turkey hunting (could use center fire for turkeys at the time) and coyote hunting. I loved the Idea I always had the right cartridge with me, In the thick shotgun barrel in the edges rifle barrel. Boy life was good I cant loose now I thought.
Well there are a few draw backs I found!!! When a double comes in you are screwed.
Example 1
Sitting in the thick with the shotgun barrel ready 2 coyotes break in fast in the thick I throw gun to shoulder and shoot first coyote he rolls Jumps up takes off. Well kinda hard to get rifle sited on 2 running coyotes thru the thick woods.
Example 2
Sitting on the edge of a clear cut woods behind me wind blowing across clear cut. Three coyotes show in clear cut wont get closer than 130 yards. I take closet coyote other two run cross ways leaving me broad side shot all the way out of field. Problem? Iam shooting a single shot rifle shotgun no good.
Solution
Tote repeater rifle and shotgun in truck once you see were you are hunting grab the one you need and get those doubles.
Of course all of this is coming from a guy that went from the savage 24f to a 14in single shot contender pistol in .223 and shot and killed many coyotes with both for years.
I believe I used them more for the challenge and they were different than most. From know own there will always be a AR and rem 870 in the truck.
P.S. the russian one does look kinda cool.
