Contest will be broken into two categories and will run from
Sept. 15th, 07 through
Jan. 12th, 08Best PhotographCan be a photo of any bow kill harvested between the dates above. Date stamped photos are a plus. Judging will be on the aww factor of the picture. Meaning either the size of the harvested animal/s, or the setting the pic was in, or overall picture, or all of the above. looking for something that stands out from an ordinary hero shot here.
Largest Whitetail RackWill have to be photo'd obviously, but I'll ask that you include something for size reference. A tape measure legible in the pic, measuring the spread, would be best.
Must be a Whitetail dear.
This will be judged on the widest spread, so measure them at their widest point.
- The members will judge the Best Photograph, and the Largest Whitetail Rack will judge itself.
- You don't have to specify which category you want your entry in. It will pretty much dictate that itself.
- All entries must be a registered Fins and Fur member at the time the contest begins. (Sept. 15th 07) Midnight. This way no one is lurking, hops in after a massive kill and runs off with the loot, never to be seen again.
- All entries must be posted in this thread in order to be eligible.
PrizesOne 1st place winner will be selected for each category.
Best Photograph winner will receive $50 cash and his choice of an FnF Cap or Decal (pics available in the FnF Store).
Largest Whitetail Rack winner will receive $50 cash and his choice of and FnF Cap or Decal (pics available in the FnF Store).

David
Well, we'd prefer a picture of the animal you got with the bow, but I appreciate the effort.
:doh2: Nevermind, I see it now. I was too busy looking at your wife there
Yeah that'll work! :highclap: Nice Elk
Actually, this would clearly be a contender, but it's got to be a harvest from a registered member as of Sept 15th.
I'm thinking your misses might want to consider becoming a member before the next contest, as she can clearly give some of us boys a lesson in humility  Certainly me :bowingsmilie:
Oh heck even if she isnt eligible its worth posting to "see" the envy oozzziinnnngggg from you guys :roflmao:
DAMN I AM ONE LUCKY MAN!!!!!
Truer words were never spoken :bowingsmilie:
Congrats to the misses on her elk and congrats to you on the misses  She wouldn't happen to have a sister would she?

What if they joined the forum after September 15th 07 midnight closing time? Not that I see myself shooting a monter racked buck with the way my hunting shedule is turning out. Just wondering if I can still get in on the fun iin case I do get lucky :iroll: Heck, if I won I'll donate the $50 back to the forum for another contest, I'd just want the hat or decal and braggin rights :eyebrownod: :roflmao:
First thing first...... Go get your contender and get him posted.... then we'll have a real problem to work on :eyebrownod:
Well, here is my entry. The first thing I would like to say, is that this is my first deer with a compound bow. I have shot several of em with a crossbow, muzzleloader, and shotgun, but never with a compound. I shot her at 22 yards while waiting for the perfect shot. I passed on several others waiting for that shot. She is not huge, but I am proud of her. By the way......that is a grunt call made by our very own Bnccont. Thing worked just like it was supposed to.
DD

Do fawns come to grunt calls??
Just kiddin DD. Any deer with a bow is a trophy. :congrats:
Ya dont even look excited  :laf:
Congrats... :yoyo: Does are a lot better eating
Cool deal DD!! I'm going after my 1st deer with a compound also. I'm also hunting from ground blinds instead of tree stands. Nice doe!!
Sweet Joe at least we know the calls work :laf:
I don't know if you noticed DD, but your deer is hollow. :shck: Just like those stink'n big Easter Bunnys you'd get & here they were hollow on the inside. :argh:
Looks like it will be some good eating and congrats on your first with a compound.
Jerry
Congrads guys nice pic's!

Hey Semp.....that is just one of them little Tennessee deer. The same age deer in Ohio would be twice the size.
Well my Ohio bow season is over, and what a hunt.Went out this morning with rain in the forecast I was hoping the deer would be moving.Got set up in my tree stand by 6:00 am.Took my rattling antlers with me to day to try some rattling.I tie my antlers on my bow rope and just bounce them off the ground to give it that affect of leaves being moved. At first shooting lite I throw out some scent wicks with doe estrous urine on them and did a short set of rattling and nothing.I waited about 15 minutes and rattled a little louder and about 30 seconds into the rattling I heard a deer coming through the woods.I was sure it was a buck so I stood up and got my bow and here he comes he was about 25 yards out I moved my foot forward on my tree stand and there was a small stick on my stand that snapped from my foot. The buck stopped and looked my way, I was thinking to myself I messed up but to my surprise he came running right in front of my stand. I took the shot at less then 20 yards,I seen some bigger buck last week, but this one I rattled in a first for me(http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd183/twalter4/buck015.jpg)
:yoyo: At's what I'm talking about :eyebrownod:
I quit doing archery deer with long and recurve bows when compounds became the rage decades ago. Just as well, ain't no stinking whitetails in CA, NV, UT, N AZ, W CO, etc, so this contest excludes members from those areas anyway. :innocentwhistle:
There isnt anything anywhere that says anything about limited to Whitetail, in the contest Ladobe. This contest is open to all bow kills.
Just yanking your chain Jimbo since you did post specifics for whitetails and none of the other deer species. LOL
Don't hunt/shoot anything anymore, so would not be a contestant anyway.
Ah c'mon...I was anticipating seeing a squirrel or something on the end of an arrow, kinda like shishkabob
Sorry - gave or threw away all the archery gear years ago.
However, if you run a contest for taking crickets, roaches, brown recluse, black widows or scorpions with the fastest fly swatter in the west, or hooch, let me know. Only things I kill now days, and I kill a lot of them daily (especially the hooch). :thumb2:
Here's what I've got to show for the season.

Some nice looking antlers there Yoey What did you use to coax them suckers in with
Man! what'd that deer weigh, that thing looks huge
Our best guess and that's all it is (a guess) was 250 live weight.
Joey
It's gotta be more, the head is huge. Nice job regardless :yoyo:
Remember contest ends January 12th :readthis: It's getting down to the wire and we only have four contestents so far.
Let's try upping the anti a bit, thanks to two call makers here that I feel forever in debt to now :sad3:
My knees buckled when I got the mail yesterday and seen these additional prizes for our Bow Contest.
Shouldn't be too hard to figure out who DONATED a couple of these for our contest. Unbelievable work here. :yoyo:

Wow..... sweet sweet colaboration :congrats: :highclap: :congrats: :highclap: A really nice gesture and somebody(s) gonna win a heck of a prize :yoyo:
HuntnCarve (Dave Paul) and bnccont (Bill Grove) both had a hand in those. I am still literally in aw over it all.
I told Dave that I never even fathomed the idea of me ever getting this close to his work. Always considered him untouchable, or way above.
To say it's an honor to receive these as donations for the contest is a gross understatement, seriously.
Thanks again and again Bill and Dave.
Very nice indeed!! Nice work on both fellas part. As usual of course.
Kinda like I felt when Bill handed me one of his grunters in the parking lot and said 'it's yours' or when this showed up with the howler I got from dave a ways back.
We got some awesome folks here and they are a very talented bunch :yoyo:
Very nice Bill & Dave. Now if only I could fill my bow tag.
Way to go Bill and Dave (put them in that order because of the order the work was done ). You know Jim, you could take your pocket knife and make the 7 an 8 and have a REALLY nice call for the year.
Jerry
Well fellas I have to say Bill did all the work. They are some really nice calls, and will make someone a sweet prize.
I'm just glad I didn't botch them up! Thanks for the kind words! Now that my head is so swollen I won't be able to fit through the shop door. I hope to be doing alittle more for the site in future. So until then... Thank you Bill, and the rest of the gang for the opportunity to give alittle back.
Dave
Damn! I wish I would have tried harder to fill my bow tag!
Those are sweet!
When Jim and I talked about these calls I was really scared about making them I just knew I was gonna botch em up somehow :laf: I had no idea what I was gonna do to make them special.I hadn't turned any kingwood so when I found this blank and was big enough to make both calls I knew this was it. Then Jim asked if I could get them engraved with that logo.I was gonna attempt it but knew then that was where the botching was gonna happen :roflmao: I make a few phone calls to some local engravers with no response. When it hit me we have an engraver on this site.I contacted David Paul [HuntnCarve ] and he said he would love to do it I felt alot more at ease knowing they would be done by a true artist. When I got them back from Dave I was like a kid at Christmas carefully tore open the box and my jaw dropped open. Thanks Dave you put the icing on the cake!!!
And a big THANK YOU for all the kind words.
Icing on the cake is what I'm thinking. :highclap:
Now I guess I'll have to grab the ol' crossbow & head for the woods for a hooved rat. :doh2: Just when Glen showed me how to hunt/call 'coon. :rolleye:
VV-- Read this carefully OK??>>>> VER SUH TILL IDDY!!!! :roflmao: :roflmao:
Super job guys!! Them things are sweet!
I'm not givin up all hope yet, even though she's clearin her throat , I saw a few ridin around yesterday that made it through the first half of gun season that'd work. Then bow opens back up for a short time. Good luck to all yet.
There will be a lanyard to go with each of the deer calls also. The lanyards are made by my daughter [Halle] The keepers are made from the same wood blank as the calls.
Very nice Bill Halle!! :laf: :congrats: :congrats:
The light blue looks good with the dark wood!!
That is actually camo not blue but that is the color my camera took
 That sumanagun sure looked blue on my screen!! :laf: Maybe the ketchup was to make sure the color setting on the camera was correct??!!  :roflmao: :roflmao:
Is it green/tan or tan/black??
It's still a nice one tho!!
:laf: :laf: that's actually a black bear hide they are laying on.
It is green and tan with black drops I had to go back to using the old camera something messed up with the new one
:roflmao: @ the black bear hide!!
Either way Bill,, 2 people get a very nice custom Bill Grove Grunter with a 2 drop camo lanyard!! That'll make someones day for em!!
I agree Bill.....they look good.
Your just so much fun to give shit too though, I can't pass on it
Bill......stop being so damn easy. Jim likes em easy. :eyebrownod:
Easy, no :nono:
Sleazy, yes :eyebrownod:
Bill's a good fella. He can take a little ribbing. Here's my entry for the out of the ordinary hero shot. :laf: :laf:
I may be easy,and sleazy,but I don't come cheap
On a good day I am flexable also :laf:
:roflmao: @ flexible!!
Here is a pict of one I got this year in archery...was pretty happy with it..... 21 main beams and some mass
(http://www.yotebuster.com/IL-Archery_small.jpg)
CritterBuster,
Nice looking buck you have there. I would have been more that "pretty happy" with that one.
Jerry
SWEET!!!!!! Thats a keeper for sure
Nice buck CritterBuster :yoyo:
Nice buck, tell us about the hunt.
Nice buck critterbuster!! :congrats: :congrats:
Yah that's a nice one :yoyo: Let's hear the details :eyebrownod:
I am not much of a story writer!!!!! I had seen this deer twice that week but I couldn't get a shot either time...too far or junk in the way. I moved to a different location to where I thought he was going and sure enough the next morning he showed up. But there were 2 doe coming up another path and a smaller buck in front of me ...too many sets of eyes for me... This all happened pretty quick and my bow was still on its hook (not cool). I was afraid of the doe winding me so I reached for my bow and the one saw me....she whirled around I grabbed the bow and drew on him.....released very quickly (quartering away shot) and I hit him behind the right rib cage and it came out on the inside of the left front leg. He stood there for a second or two and collapsed. I paced it at 42 steps...my farthest shot on a deer and my best deer to date.
Nice job critterbuster, and you did a fine job on the story writing.that is a nice buck.
Critterbuster: your story telling is crap! :rolleye: You need to practice more, on here of course, & you need to add pix as well. We'll be glad to critique your stories & help you out the best we can. Remember - practice, practice, practice!
:innocentwhistle: :laf:
Real nice buck & that's cool how you got him.
Congratulations, that's a nice one in my book.
You guys are funny :hahaha: ..... I will have to brush up on my story tellN skills to hang out here......
