Title: Bopeye
Post by: clousewt on September 07, 2007, 03:56:38 PM
Everyone, we all need to pray for James Holbrook. He found out he has several herniated disks in his lower back. He also has arthritis setting in also. Keep Bopeye in your prayers.

Thanks Tom. They call it Spinal Stenosis, but what's a semi-conscious fat guy to do.........
The herniated discs are kinda crazy too. My feet, part of one leg and my ......uh......male part have all went numb. Sure does make for some odd experiences.......... :innocentwhistle:

It'll be o.k. either way it goes though. Chet said he'd drag me behind a tractor, shove me off in some brush and make me call......... :laf:

Thank you fellas. One thing is for sure, we will all have problems in this little thing we call life. This is just one of those things......

I had a compression fracture in my back playing nosetackle in high school. Then a few years later we were practicing multiple attacker drills in Tao Chi Kung Fu and had three vertebrae knocked out of whack. I was layed up for about six months with that. Then I had a few pounds drop on me while doing a squat at a powerlifting meet. Carried shingles for a few years which didn't help. I told the Doctor all these things and ya know all he could say............?

Getting fat was probably worse than any of those other things...... :doh2:

I can't believe I've paid another doctor to call me fat.......... :pout: :rolleye:

Hang in there Bop....it isn't any fun!! Get them to give you Neurontin if you aren't already taking it!! It blocks nerve generated pain without messing up your head!!

I lost four discs in a row in my neck, w/ corresponding nerve damage and stenosis from being too stupid to go to the Doctor...the nerve damage is forever, but getting better with time. They took the discs out and did a 5 level fusion w/ a titanium appliance...I was on a ton of stuff, but the neurontin works, and works WELL. It isn't a pain pill James, they don't know really why it works, but it does. It was designed as an anti-seizure medicine...

Will keep ya in our prayers!!!!!

Bop.....You didn't tell the doctor about all the shots with the 10 gauge that you missed????? That could have donated to the pain. :innocentwhistle:

Seriously, Your in our prayers and if there is any thing we can do here from VA just let us know.

Hope you get to feeling better, Bopeye.  And soon!

If the weight is the problem, you can drop it.  Just cut back your calories and try to get some excercise. Give it a few months and you will see a difference.  I went on a diet starting in April and have lost 55 pounds so far.  It CAN be done!  But it definitely isn't easy.

Hang in there buddy!

Well, went to the neurosurgeon today. The herniated discs in the lumbar region are coming along, but they found a new bummer. Herniated disc in the T10, which is in the middle of the back. Pretty rare for this one to be out. It is actually bruising the spinal cord. He told me to come back in two weeks and if it hadn't improved they'd order another MRI and then probably have to do surgery.

Now this surgery sounds like a fun one. They cut from your middle back, under your armpit around to just under the nipple.
They then remove a rib, fix the T10 disc and put ya back together. He said it normally took about a year to recover from the damaged tissue from the surgery, which equates to a year of pain............ :rolleye:

I pray God has a different look on this thing.......

I sure hope you don't need that operation James. That would be a bummer. But if you need it then you got to do what ever it takes to get yourself better. I will be praying for you.

Bop,

Relax the next two weeks.  Keep thinking of the sensitivity training and become one with nature.  Think good thoughts (O.K. you already do that one).  Do whatever it takes to get feeling better and have things slip back into place.

Been going to a chiropractor for a couple months, but trust me, that crazy surgery is gonna be a last ditch effort for relief. All other avenues will be tried first.

I think I'm too big of a weenie to go through that surgery.  :eyebrownod:

Thank you for all the encouragement guys.

Sorry I can't reply much, just can't sit in this chair long.  :iroll:
