I took off this morning and got out to do a little hunting. The weather channel showed that it was going to be cloudy and 70 degrees with a 4mph wind out of the S.E. so I called up my buddy Shane and we took off early this morning. By the time we made it to the stand it was already 75 degrees and warming. I called the first stand and it was dry. The next stand was about 9:15 and it was about 85 degrees in the shade. We found a good plowed field that had a little bit of weeds popping up, and a good creek about 100yds up wind from us. We backed into some shadows and I started calling with my Red River Bandit production call. I called for about 5-6 minutes and there popped out a bobcat and he kept coming. I quit calling and he continued to come, I was filming so I let him get up to about 20 yds away from us, then told Shane to go ahead and take him. I gave him a lip squeak and stopped him , The first shot hit him in the right leg, he came running towards us and stopped about 10 feet away when I barked and Shane took another shot. hitting in almost the exact same place. He finally retired in the tree line directly behind us. It was some good footage. We were drenched in sweat by the time we made it back to the truck, here is a pic of Shane and his First Bobcat. Great looking cat!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrads!

Brent
Yeah, It's nice being able to call them up down here. That was really skinny, and didn't have any spots on his back which is not usual for cats around these parts. When I was watching him approach he had almost a great big ole fluffy face, but he had very short hair all over the rest of his body. And the ears on this one was black with a solid white strip around the middle, It was a little different looking cat. Shane probably didn't care what it looked like. He started shaking as soon as I said "Cat coming in the field." He had just told me, Man we've killed about 20 coyotes and I haven't ever called a bobcat. Well there ya go Shane. lol.
That is pretty neat. Like KeeKee said, we can't hunt those kind of cats in Ohio. Unfortunately, I don't live close enough to KY to drive across the river and hunt there either. One day I may have to go visit Arky and have him call me in a cat - a non house type variety.
Jerry
WTG guys. Looks like one of those African cats, a caracal.
Jerry: don't act so selective. :iroll: You know you'd shoot any cat that came in. ;yes; :sneer:
Yeah that temptation has probably got him before. lol
Congrats on the cat!!!! Maybe Ohio will allow us to shoot one some day. :eyebrow:
We are getting more and more cats here in the southern end of the state. There was several ran over last year one right behind my house in early fall. And I see more and more sign here every year. I seen one this spring in Turkey season while guiding, and also found a den as well. I hope they let us hunt them here in the future!
Jerry,
Your welcome anytime to shoot down here and hunt KY with me. I got some fine cat spots over there. We average several cats a year over there and you know your welcome here! Place to stay, hunt, and the wife is not a bad cook!

Sounds great to me. When the weather cools, so that the fur will be a little more prime, I will be down.
