Title: WY Antelope
Post by: yotefever on October 08, 2007, 08:15:08 PM
Made it back out to WY again and got two more, so did my son. It's like the  LBL hunt but just some of   us guys from Specialty Pistols.com. We  do it in memory of a great guy that died in a hunting accident, Rich Bartman
We had to work harder for them this year, we just kept getting busted by other groups of antelope or single antelope  :doh2:
One of the guys from Gillette WY became the camp cook and man can he cook. Even made some homemade bread the night I made corned beef and cabbage.
This was just the second year and we had 13 hunters this year. Two wifes came along too and also made some excellent meals.
Guns ranged from a Contender in 357max, to a  Rem XP 100 in 7 Dakota. I was using my new MOA in 7 Sundance, we named it during the hunt. It's based on a 376 Steyr case. Rich Mertz of MOA moved to Sundance WY a couple of years ago so that's why we choose the name.
Here is my rig with a 6.5x20x50 LR 3/4 Mil dot Lupy scope and my buck. Sure do like the side focus.  :highclap:

I was using 168g Berger VLD's and was very happy with them. The .648 bc sure helps in the wind.
Sure had a great time and the weather was pretty good but sure did get windy. On Thursday it was 17mph with a lot of gusts to 30+ mph.
Here is my bil's tent and Ray and Mitch's tee pee, all the way from Denver.

I'm hoping to make the LBL hunt  and get to meet a bunch of you guys, sure is nice to put faces to names. Besides hunting coyotes is my favorite hunt  :highclap: :eyebrownod:

Some don't like the meat but if you get rid of the fat and silver stuff it's a very red lean meat. We like it.
The gun with the brake is easy to shoot you just don't get right up to the scope at 20x.  It comes back only a couple of inches. With the weight of the 17" barrel plus brake it makes it a pleasure to shoot. I don't think I'll try it on coyotes though  :doh2:

Here's a pic of the 7 Dakota with a first time shooter in Gillette.

Here I thought the other day when I looked at my friends new S&W .460 with the 12" fluted barrel was crazy.  :laf:
Those are quite the set ups ya got there.   :thumb2:

Neat pictures and it looks like a great time.  Nothing like sleeping in a teepee on a cold fall night.
