Title: 3 Calls...
Post by: Purgatory_Predator_Calls on October 22, 2007, 09:51:51 PM
These three calls represent the latest works to come out of the Purgatory Predator Call shop.  I've been grinding on the big game as much as possible so this is all I've got to show for the past month or so.  I've already killed my elk for the year but there's a couple big white tails in the Purgatory River  bottom that I'm waiting on.  The lami is the only call that's spoken for so far but I'm not selling the other two just yet.  Anyhow here they are....

The lami consists of total of 30 pieces of wood including the mouthpiece.  It's Holly and Bloodwood.  The mouthpiece is Gaboon Ebony.  This call's got some serious time involved.  It's my first real laminate call, and it a gift for a friend who just gave me his first coyote call.  A Circe, 3 voiced, call from the 60's

The second call has Black and White Ebony body, cross cut Zebra Wood ring, and a Gaboon Ebony mouthpiece.  This is also the first time I've turned B&W Ebony and I love the color.

And the last call is Curly Maple with a Bloodwood Ring.  I don't turn maple that often but I sure love the way it take a polish.

All three calls sport the same double o-ring fit.  And these three calls actually represent the first turned bells I've done.

Thanks for looking em over fellers I hope to stick that buck and get back to tuning more often.  Talk to you all later!

That black and white ebony is nice stuff. And the holly/bloodwood is just plain neater than hell!

Love the detailing inside and out.

They are all beautiful calls, but I realy fancy that laminated call, and as stated before the holly band just pops.  :bowingsmilie: :bowingsmilie: :bowingsmilie:

That laminate is just wonderful. You did an amazing job on it. But it raisese the question in my mind how did you sand it without getting the red dust from the bloodwood all in the white wood of the holly?

I would sand then blow with compressed air, repeat that about 100 times and bang!  No bloodwood dust in the holly.

Thanks for the method clarification. I'll have to give it a try. I have always had problems with holly because of the drift from the neighboring piece.
