Title: any computer geeks?
Post by: browning204 on November 13, 2007, 10:14:18 PM
So my comp. has me pulling out my hair lately!

My monitor goes on the blink sometimes, it will be fine then it just blinks on and off outta no where. If I slap the back it might come back, sometimes I gotta unplug it and replug it back.

sometimes when it goes crazy it does it for a while, where is blinks, comes back for like 10 seconds and blinks out again. Sometimes I have to wrestle with it for like a half hour before it works for a while.

Also, when I watch video like on you tube, the comp shuts down completely. When I turn it back on it tells me it went into thermal overload. Sometimes I have to restart it like 5 times before it takes. It happens mostly when i watch video or play a dumb game or something. I seriously can't believe I havent shot it yet!

Any help would be great!

Your monitor is most likely on it's last leg. Sounds pretty typical to a burning out crt.
As far as the video situation, how old is your computer?

sounds to me like your monitor is going out! go to www.newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com) and get a new one.  also your radiator might be low on coolant and causing it to overheat, but I kinda dought you have a radiator though. :eyebrow:

So my comp. over heated again and shut down. As I was on my way out the door I left it be.

I got home and restarted it and my darn monitor would not work for nothing!!

I spent a half hour with the thing. Finally I unplugged it, through it on the floor and stomped on it! It has been working like a charm ever since!!!!

I have been practicing my flying Elbow for the next time the Comp. over heats!!!

You might have a smoked video card too. But like bow said, if that case is full of dust and debris which it will be if you've never cleaned it, something could be shorting out.

What ever you do, DO NOT vaccum it out. Computers and static electricity do not get along.  :nono:

I will try to clean it. Someone told me it might be my video card but the comp. will say beep beep beep when I start it up. It don't.

I think I replaced my video card once when I had to buy the proper thingy to get my digi camcorder to sync with my comp.

It wont necessarily say beep beep beep.
That's a start up/diagnostic/check thing and not all systems have it. Plus if what triggers the alert isn't getting what it needs either, there will be no alert.

At least you can change it, the ones built into the mother board are a P.I.T.A.   I've burnt plenty of cards out overpowering and overclocking them for gaming.

Sorry to chime in so late on this. I'm a tech. You have a over heating issue. Take the cover off and see how dusty it is in there. In the middle of the motherboard(thing with all the chips on it) should have a fan running. If it is not running it must be replaced. If the heatsink it's attached to is covered with dust clean it with compressed air or your air compressor(if it has a water trap).

I forgot to mention that the shutting down is a mechanism to prevent the heat from damaging the processor. That why the videos and games shut it down. They make it hot.
