Working on a coyote from Michigan out in the shop tonight. Got er all fleshed down to absolutely nothing, took er over to the sink and proceeded to rinse it out.
I rinsed and hosed for close to twenty minutes, and the longer I went the more of these nasty looking things I found. All over the sink, all over my gloves. :puke:
I aint never seen nothing like this in my 12 years of service. It doesn't look like a flea or it's larvae, and it surely doesnt look like mange mites or their larvae. Not that I have ever seen anyway.
My gloves were literally speckled with them, so I came in and used a jewelers eye to get a close up. Held the jewelers eye over the shutter on my camera and snapped the picture through it.
To the naked eye they were about the size of a pin head DO look a lot like a flea but.......
Notice the strand of hair to the right with more larvea stuck to it. I didnt even notice that until I looked at the pics. This crap was everywhere

Is it lice?
Good question...never looked that one up
COOTIES !!!! :laf:
Nooooooo :pout:
I said the coyote was from Michigan, not Kentucky
:shck: HOLY CRAP !!!!!! Thats one of those brain eating micro ameoba's (their nasty) :readthis: You better hurry and get yourself decontaminated. The only way to remove them is to cover your entire body in peanutbutter then jump in bathtub full tomato juice and cat urine and soak for a hour :puke: , then rinse off and get to the closest walk-in freezer and sit in there for 35 minutes (dont forget to leave your clothes out side the freezer) when you leave put on a clean change of clothes.
Hopefully this meathod will keep them off you !!! Good Luck !!! I'll be prayin for ya. :eyebrow:
I don't know what they are, but I sure hope they were showing up DEAD and not alive.
Jerry
Jim,you sure those came off that coyote? Looks like Yankee cooties to me................... :innocentwhistle:

:laf:
Ok...where was I? :innocentwhistle:
The jewelers eye is a handy little device for a lot of things. I use it to remove slivers from the mits of my three little pride and joys.
I use it to exam the inside of my dogs ears.
I use it to go to the bathroom ... :holdon: ... :nono:

Lmao alright I'm just jealous that i don't have a jewelers eye. Don't take it personal :eyebrownod: :eyebrownod: :eyebrownod:
Jim,
That looks like some type of louse. They cement their eggs to the hairs or feathers of varous mammals or birds.
They are a little over a millimeter in length.
Nelson
:wo: By the looks of that finger I don't think that was a picture of CCP after all!! :roflmao: :roflmao: :hahaha: :roflmao: :roflmao:
I think Bop learned his lesson last year on ruthless BITE ME's when he ran out a month early Jim!! :roflmao: :roflmao:
You look like that little that little guy on Hogans hero's. :roflmao:
Jim......it appears that you have a muskrat taped to your lip. Better be careful that you don't get any of them little buggers on ya. :nono:
:roflmao: :roflmao: @ Col Klink!! :roflmao: :roflmao:
Oh you guys think this shit's funny?
YEP!!
But not the bug part if it's a health issue. I wouldn't wish that on anybody. :pout: Hell I had the itchies after looking at that picture. :puke:
All I can say is what the Ol' Lady said, and I quote," He's got awful purty hands for a man". :roflmao: :roflmao:
Yeah I'm a hand model in my spare time Stray. You probably seen me on some commercials :eyebrownod:

I got your back Jimbo...........
EVERYONE BITE JIMBO!!!
How'd I do? :sneer:
You done good son  I appreciate it
never seen those before
I leaning real strong towards lice now. Kinda hoping someone would confirm it. Is there a veterinarian in the house?
never seen canine lice and I've been working with dogs for years. The attached eggs to the hair would make me think that it is lice. The actual bug looking thing you have dont look like anything i've ever seen unless its in a mid stage of hatching and becoming the louse. The kids brought home lice from school once and it didnt look like that bug.
Good find Jim, make sure to let us know if you get more info.
Jim,
Contact a pest contol company or an Entomologist. Ask them if you can send them the samples. One of those
should be able to give you a definitive diagnosis.
Nelson
The local Vets office could help too.
It does my heart good to come in and see everyone giving Jimbo hell. Not that I would have done it.... :innocentwhistle:
I miss my computer time. :madd:
Didja get it figured out??
He is not real sure yet. The doctors have tried to get additional information about them from the bites that are covering his body. While I have not seen the pictures, I have heard from several of the doctors that said "It isn't pretty!"
:innocentwhistle:
Well...I'm guessing I contracted these things after that weekend at Baxters house. Ya see he had to run some errands and was gone for an extra long time :innocentwhistle:
Actually I'm still leaning towards lice. I showed Rick223 the pics last weekend and he instantly said canine lice.
I honestly have never in my entire life seen anything so infested as this coyote hide. I mean INFESTED. I am not exaggerating when I say the coyote hide is literally much heavier in weight due to it. It's un believable.
Can't believe I'm saying this on an open forum, but I called the customer and he wants me to continue on, finish the hide and send it back to him. Wow.....
Well I'm glad ya didn't get sick from it!! That picture still makes my skin crawl!! :puke:
Kinda like when you find a tick crawling on you. You feel them on you all day after that.
Are you startin' to get that itch Jim?
I can relate to that Weedwalker, but no, these never made me feel that way.
Probably cause I knew they were dead, nothing lives through the acids these things endure.
Well, at least that dog was put out of his misery.
Imagine slinging that yote over your shoulder for the walk out? :puke: And then on the ride home the itching starts. :shck:
:laf:
I did ask the guy that when I called him. Claimed he never shot it or carried it out....a buddy did.
Jim, It looks like lice to me. There has been a lot about lice in coyotes and wolves in Alaska. It usually surfaces just behind the head between the shoulders. You will notice a thinning of the hair in that area and it will have a greasy area there. If you did down in there you will see the little buggers. Just one more thing to ruin a good coyote. If you type in Lice in wolves and coyotes in Alaska, there is quite a bit of information on this.
