Title: Purple Heart
Post by: Yotehntr on January 21, 2008, 10:19:57 AM
I've been making a couple of calls with some purple heart a friend gave me, but when I finish them they look more like walnut. Before I used it it looked purple but after I cut it it has more of a brown tint, can't even see any purple. I was wondering, am I doing something wrong or is it just the lumber I have? I saw a post once about leaving it in the sun light but to my knowledge it has been kept inside.

Sunlight and oxygen will make it turn. Just give it some time. Set it in a window with lots of sun and rotate it frequently, like several timesa day. It won't take long and you will see those wonderful colors you are looking for.

unless of course you used a finish with a UV inhibitor  :)

But he is right.  They come back to purple when they get sunburned.

Thanks guys!! for some reason I thought the object was to keep it out of the sunlight  :doh2: I guess all that has to be before the finish huh?
