I am so sick right now I could cry! I went out to the shop to finish up a call I been working on and get it ready for the sanding on the inside of the barrel. I go to turn the drill press on and No Power! Not good, I check the plug and no electric. Here is the bad news..................
I got three wall sockets on that line! One to the drill press and two freezers. The sockets are daisy chained together, one feeds the other. The socket on the drill press went bad, causing a loss of power to the other two receptacles.
The two freezers were full from top to bottom with this years furs!
I'm so sick its not funny! Coons, Mink, Coyotes, Beaver,Rats, Fox all gone! I took a couple that were on top out and they didn't smell bad or look bad but it will take several days for them to freeze back solid all the way threw. I see a total loss coming! I don't even know how many days its been with out power, everything was un thawed completely!
This one hurts! Not only a hole season loss, gas money, lures but all the work in it! Major dollars in fur down the drain! Talk about a punch in the gut and a waist!
After a season of hard work like this year and now this.......  Man, I'm sick!
Brent
I feel for ya. I lost a hole freezer full of food that way.Very costly
Brent,
I am really sorry for your loss. I have enjoyed reading about you trapping and know the time and hard work
you have put into it. It's a terrible loss, and I know it may not seem like it now, but you will come through it
and recover. My prayers and best wishes for you.
Nelson
That sucks.....
Give your insurance company a call, they might be able to help a little bit.
Sorry to hear that Brent....
That sucks!! Our old deep freeze went out on us a few years ago & just as luck would have it I went to the basement for whatever it was I was lookinf for & found water on the floor around it. Luckily there was still frost built up on the inside & everything was saved. Good Luck on my part for a change. Maybe your insurance can help some. It's worth a try!! Good Luck & I hope you can save a bunch!!
No..... you can't be saying this....... were they even a little cold? I can hardly imagine how ya feel. That much fur. That much work. Man I hope it turns out they are ok. :fingerx:
Do you think they got warmer than 40*?
I understand that there isn't pelt loss under 40*. Just what I've heard.
Thanks guys but I don't feel a bit better this morning. This just plain sucks!
They were cold but not froze at all, all I checked was a few on the top then fixed the socket and let it start to freeze again. They didn't smell bad but I am afraid that it will take a couple more days for them to freeze all the way threw again. That will be what hurts, there is so much fur in there that in order for it to all thaw out it had to be off for several days.
I'm going to contact the insurance company, never thought about that.
Brent
Sorry to hear that Brent.
Dang Brent, really sorry to hear that ! That would be sickening!
Hopefully they either are OK, or ya get the help ya need from your insurance company.
Sorry to hear Brent.....I know you have been busting tail all season. I hope it all works out for ya.
Sorry to hear that Brent.
That stinks Brent , hopefully everything turns out O.K.
Thats a real bad deal. We had a deep freeze come up bad at our resturant and had to throw out several thousand dollars worth of food, we did not want to risk anyone getting sick. I know how you feel. You might get lucky and not have to much loss if you got them plugged in and frozen pretty quick.
Sorry you had such bad luck
Kuipdog
Brent , if they where still cold, i say they are still good .I don't think they will slip , it's happened with me and some deer capes but they were fine...
look for a alarm to put on the freezer
Sorry about the loss Brent, sure hope the insurance will help out. cc
Bummer!!!!!!!!!!!! I know how you feel.
That is plumb pitiful! I sure hope Jim is right about the insurance company helping. It looks like they would since it affects your income. I don't blame you for being sick. Just thinking about all the work that went into those furs would make anyone ill.
Brent, sorry to hear that....., The same thing happened to me a few years ago with alot of meat and a half dozen beaver hides. I recomend you get a low temp sensor for your freezers they work with an alarm system if you have one, if not they can be used as stand alone devices. If you need help please let me know as I use them quite frequently for computer rooms and and monitoring temps on vacation homes for alot of my customers. They are not that expensive compared to whats at stake. :rolleye:
Joe
Hope it works out ok for you Brent.
I ordered two low temp alarms this evening! I'm going to wire them into my shop alarm system. And hope that this takes care of the problem. I also talked with the Insurance lady today and she gave me the run around but the boss wont be in till Friday, Dad is good friends with him...lol...So we will see. I also talked to the tax man!
I also done a re-wire job on the receptacles. I took them off the daisy chain and ran new wire and receptacles, hooked them right to there own separate breakers in the shop. A little late but better than never!
I had all my packaged deer meat in the bottom of one of the freezers in bags, I would be afraid of it now, and there was two wire baskets of fish lost as well.
I wont know for sure what the loss is until the fur buyer gets here in Feb.
Thanks for all the kind words guys!
Brent
You know I've been thinking Brent. As bad as this really is for you,,, the shop didn't burn down. Electrical fires are all too common & I am certainly glad you didn't lose your whole shop!! I wish this wouldn't have happened at all but I'm also very glad this is all the worse it ended up being. Not trying to be a dick here. I'm just glad it wasn't any worse than this. Good Luck & I hope you can recover it all!!
Brent,
Several years ago I left an expensive machine (several thousand dollars) on all night and burnt it up. I just got busy and forgot to turn it off. When they
replaced the machine, I had them run a wire to a light socket outside the door. Now when the machine is on the light is on and very noticeable. If you can
run a wire from the freezer to an outside light bulb this would let you know immediately if freezer is not working. This in addition to the freezer alarms
should be fool proof. When you come home you just glance to see if the light is on and know everything is ok if it is. Just another idea that might help you.
I have been using some of those curly-Q light bulbs 24/7 and they have been lasting over a year. Good luck.
Nelson
Those curly Q light bulbs last forever it seems. We're well into our 2nd year with the one at the back door.
Nelson,
That's a good idea! Thanks! I will do that!
HaMeR
I was thinking about that the other day. It could of been allot worse for sure. My Grand dad built that shop years ago I'm am glad as well that it wasn't worse than it was. I can see some changes coming as soon as it warms up.
Brent
Sorry to hear that Brent.
Your insurance company should compensate you for any food lost in the freezer but not likely any of the furs. The coverage is often termed, "Refrigerated foods." Not "refrigerated items."
Still, it never hurts to ask.
Good luck with it.
Randy
I am hoping for the best for ya, Kee. I know the feeling you had. That sick feeling in the gut. Lets hope it turns out OK and you didn't lose any of your hard work. Sounds like you got a shot at saving everything.
Semp
Sorry to hear this Brent. I know from reading the trapping threads you have a lot of fur and to think it could all be gone really does suck.
If the insurance policy states "foods" like Randy said, just explian that your going to the LBL and Bop is going to be hungry..... :innocentwhistle:

Ouch.......that one's gotta hurt.......I can already hear a "bite me" coming through the hills of Tennessee. :eyebrownod:
Dang that really sucks.. I hope everything turns out ok.. You might want to have a dedicated circuit for your freezers.. Take care , dave
Just to give you all the final results. Total loss! :rolleye: Not one fur that was any good! Hole season down the crapper except for 5 Mink and 7 coons that were in one of Musses freezers, and a few Beaver.
But, it just wasn't meant to be I guess. Might just make me drive harder next year to do even better!
I did set up a alarm system on both freezers, but that don't help much at this point. But will be ready for next fur season!
Brent
Sorry to hear you couldnt salvage any. Good to see your spirits are up !
Next season will be better and make up for your loss.
Nelson
Sorry to hear that. Better luck next year
Yeah that sucks. I dont know what I'd do if my beaver rotted.
Ok....that was just wrong. :doh2:
I got a feeling with this new deal your taking up you'll be back in the fur business fairly quick though.

Sorry to hear that, Brent. I had hopes that most of your furs would come through OK. You've got a positive attitude and that says a lot about you as a man. Never give up, never quit. It will all work out in the end.
Semp
Sorry to hear that Brent.
Pat
Sorry to hear it too!! I was hoping the bottom of the pile would at least be good.
You'll end up winning Brent. You've got the right attitude to fight the tough battles. Sorry this one went wrong.
Thanks guys! Its hard to keep a good spirit with a loss like that, I figure some were around $2500-$3000 in just the coons.
I will be able to write the loss off on my taxes though. But that done mean much...lol
All you can do is just keep plugging along and take what ever life deals ya!
QuoteI got a feeling with this new deal your taking up you'll be back in the fur business fairly quick though.
Ya, it looks good right now but there wont be allot of fur that can be sold, some will but most wont. But the rest of the deal is good! :eyebrownod:
Brent
Man, that just makes me heart sick. I was so hoping you wouldn't lose any & ya lost the whole bunch.
Well, in line w/ what you said ... next year when you trap the motherlode you'll know the freezers are up to the task!
I was thinkin about this the other day, thought maybe things turned out differently for ya.
Really sorry to hear it Brent ! Just curious what the insurance company told ya? Scott
What can I say  a sad sucky deal for sure ..... :wo: hey, they got these things called fleshing beams and stretchers :puke: ooops :hahaha:
I'm sure next season can't get here quick enough to get that taste out of your mouth...... but your right..... stuff happens and all ya can do is learn what ya can from it and keep on trucking...... and of course, put up with wise cracks from your buddies :readthis:
Brent,
Like everyone else I am really sorry to hear this. Even writing it off on your taxes won't make you feel much better. Hang in there and maybe next year you won't have all the water crests and falls to fight. That way you can find that elusive Otter toilet.
Jerry
i too was hopeing that you would be able to salvage some of the fur; i know at the present things look grim. well at least we know there should be better days ahead.
Wow! That sucks!!!
Jim
That's too bad Brent! Glad you're keeping a positive attitude. I lost a couple rats and a badger that way, got behind on putting them up, but nothing like you're talking. Live and learn I guess.
Well, we been beating the idea around on buying furs next year. And working a local kid full time skinning and fleshing, and putting up furs.
I took out a big blower here at work today. I think I am going to run some wooden trunks in the skinning shop and mount the blower to dry furs and keep them cool when needed. I pulled some plans off the enet today, and sent them over to dad, I think he is going to take the job on....lol
I re done the wiring on both freezers, but them on there own breakers and receptacles. Also wired up a flashing light and a buzzer to both freezers.
Next year will be allot better!
Brent
Wow, I can't even imagine. That's a tough loss.
