Title: Crow Huntin'
Post by: hemmingway on March 24, 2008, 03:59:39 PM
Hey guys! I'm new to the boards so 1st off lemme say "hello".  Second, I'd really like to try out my hand at crows.  I don't know the first thing...  I'd appreciate any tips  & Tricks, and any websites or books to read up on the subject.  Or if i can get the down and dirty here, where can i find it?

Thanks in advance!

hemi,

Welcome to FnF.  We are glad to have you here.  There are several members here that seem to take "crow  hunting" rather personal.  I don't know why and am afraid to ask.      Anyway if you go to http://www.finsandfur.net/forums/index.php?board=4.0   you will find several posts (only one right now of the first page I think) relating to crows.  It also might help if you give the area of the state you live in - Northwest Ohio, etc. so if there is a member in the area they might be able to take you out with them.  Right now the season is closed in Ohio, but it will be back shortly.

Howdy and welcome.  I'd have to agree with Jerry, Crowbusters has alot of tips and tricks on there.

I dont put up huge numbers but I do manage a few birds each outing.  Staying well camofluaged and/or using a blind is a main objective.
Them birds can SEE very well.
I work a hand call along with electronic, alot of the great gentleman here sell good sounding, well made hand turned crow calls.

howdy Hemmingway, crowbusters is the site to learn some good stuff....what silencer said, camo, dont move, mod choke, 7 1/2/8 shot low brass, thats how i get it done. I use a FX3 electronic caller and a Jack Mincey crow call. Nailed 2 today in the frozen tundra of NH lol. It is addicting and a blast...usually in the Fall season I use the owl decoy and crow decoys too. Not sure where your at regionally, but corn fields and rivers are crow heaven. I use locator calling for crows just like turkeys, ill drive around stop and listen for them, if i dont hear any ill blast a few calls out the window to stir em up, if i hear em then i get out and set up quick, good luck!
