Waters right now boys!!! Carp and gar should be spawning down there now. Catfish should be getting close too. I was hoping to get down there for the tournament at the end of the month but I think I will go see Bopeye instead. I am looking forward to picking up my dog. I have got to get him so he will be coyote ready by winter. Beside Bop will teach him bad habbits if I don't.   :roflmao:

I went bow fishing the other day only to find out the carp had frozen out in my favorite hole  :argh:  (it was only 1-2 feet deep), but the water was clear as glass so we found something else to harpoon instead !                                      (http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m24/5shots_01/turtles001.jpg)

Oh yes. Very nice.

Do you guys eat them? They stink to high heaven when cleaning them, but we learned a trick this past year I'll share.

We usally throw out jugs and catch around a dozen to take camping. After we gthem we'll take them, alive, to the car wash and hit them with teh high powered pressure washer. Then fill a barrel up with fresh clean water and put them in it for a couple days. It really really cuts down on the smell.

And watch the heads after you cut them off. they will still get ya after an hour of being cut off. Just ask dear ol cuz who is scared to death of them....LOL

I'll have to try that next time. I like how the heart still beats hours after you clean them. and I always cut the jaw muscles after I had to clean chickens the same day. (Two of the chickens were wearing turtle head hats!)

I've never seen a catfish that big when bowfishing.  Maybe 10 pounds is the biggest catfish I've seen while bowfishing.  We don't seem to see that many at catfish at all.  I hope to get to go some here pretty soon.  Maybe we will see some carp or something.

I have seen some WAY bigger than that one. That particular fish only weighted 35# but it sure looked bigger than that. We can shoot them by the boat loads here and legal too.

To get started Eric, I would recomend you look for oxbow lakes near the rivers in your area. If there are no oxbows then the larger creeks that drain into the rivers.  Look up a map of westrern Ky and look for Clarks river ,Mayfield Creek and Obion creek. All of these have good populations of gar, grinnel, carp and some large cats in them. I am sure there are some similar rivers and creeks in your area. I have shot some fairly large carp within a few miles of Mayfield Ky itself, the Mississippi is at least forty miles away at that point.

The water in these runs clear most of the time and it's pretty easy to see your targets. The closer to the rivers you get the better the chance of some large gar of several species. Jimmie
