Well, we got there before daybreak, and it was drizzlin a bit. Got to our spot and when it started getting light out we started calling, and they started gobbllin. Unfortunately (and expected) they were with hens and moved on. We then prceeded to try to find another birds and couldn't, so we took a break for lunch.
Our plan for after lunch was to go and just sit down in a spot where they have been known to hang out in the daytime. So we go and sit down and it is still drizzlin a bit, and we are still getting wet. After about 30 minutes of some soft calling, we hear a gobble several huntred yards away. After a few more calls, and gobbles, he is hot and on the way. At about 100 yards, he hangs up, so I stop calling. After a few short minutes, he can't stand it and come in.......right behind us and we can't move. He ended up not more than 25 yards away and we couldn't do a dang thing about it.
That was the firts gobbler that I have ever called in. I was so close, but learned a lot about how they react. It was a fun day even though I got soaked and I am ready to go tomorrow (just as soon as I dry my stuff out).
sounds like he was close enough to "feel" the gobble :yoyo:
Keep at em DD !!! You'll git r done !!!
What a year you have had........way to go JOE!!!! :congrats:

Actually, he gobbled one time after he left from being hung up, and that is how we knew he was coming. So we turned around and there he was.
:doh2: Too bad he didn't hit it when he was that close!! You woulda had more than just a few typos!! :roflmao: :roflmao:
I had em gobblin at 15yds last year & couldn't see them!! They do get loud. Wait til you hear one spittin & drummin!! That is bad right there. :yoyo: :yoyo:

That sounds like a great hunt to me...way to stick with it. A lot of guys around here end up leaving the woods if they aren't hearing any birds. Persistence and lots of patience - great job. And good luck on your next outing.
Steve
Joe-- Did you go to the same spot this AM?? Or did you back up some & try to ambush him on the way in again??
