Title: Olympic Arms AR any good??
Post by: Frogman on April 30, 2008, 09:29:22 PM
A local gun shop has an Olympic Arms AR flat top with 16 inch bull barrel free floated with an aluminum handguard for $699.00.  Nice looking rifle.  Seems like a good price.  Do any of you guys know anything about them?

My AR is an Olympic Arms ( by Dedicated Technologies)  Works good for me.

I have the same AR you are referring to and it will shoot sub 1" groups at 100 yard with anything  I have put through it.  CCP can vouch for this as he was at the range with me when I was shooting it.  The bull barrel is a little heavy, but I think the gun balances pretty well for an AR.  For the money it is a really nice gun that you should enjoy for quite some time.

Guys,
I went ahead and ordered a Remington R-15 for $942.00 this evening.  It is already camoflaged and has other features the Olympic did not have for $242.00 more.  Someone else told me that the camo alone runs 200 to 250??  I will post a review when I get this rifle and get it sighted in sometime near the end of next week.  I really liked the looks of the R-15.  I hope I like it as much as you guys like your Olympics.   Hope I made the right choice??   :wo:

I'm jealous!!! I bought a RRA about 6 months before Remington came out with theirs. Nothing at all wrong with the RRA It's sub minute. I'm just a big green fan. Only thing I didn't like was it isn't stainless.

Can't say that I have ever even seen the R-15.  I will have to check it out.  What caliber did you go with?

edit:  I just saw it.  Nice looking gun, I also read where Bushmaster and Remington are now owned by the same company.

It is my understanding that the R-15 is a Bushmaster. I may stand corrected though.

Mike,
I think either brand would be correct since basically they are the same company now.  The R-15 is on Remington's web site though.

Jim,
Which barrel length did you decide on?

18 inch.

You made a wise choice, the resale value is much better than the other, and you will more than recover the $250 you paid, if you ever decide to sell it or trade it for something else.

I'm really excited about getting it now that I decided what I wanted.  Spent this evening loading up 100 rounds of various loads to try.  I have to go out of town through the middle of this week for a few days.  It should be here by the time I get back on Thursday afternoon 5/8/08.  May take a little while to get the scope mounted and sighted in.  I will be sure to post a review with lots of pictures.  Hopefully with some photos of some really tight 100 yard groups.  Thanks for all of your input.

Semp,
Yes I do have a Colt AR that I am safekeeping for my cousin.  This one will be mine.  I just got back in town this afternoon and can't get a hold of the guy I ordered the rifle from.  I hope to get it this weekend, but right now I don't even know if he got it in or not.  Just waiting to hear back from him.
