I am not an experienced turkey hunter. Only went once several years ago with a friend. I hope to try some hunts this season! :yoyo: Monday was the first day of turkey season here in WV. I had a doctor's appointment at 9:00 AM :madd:. About 8:15 AM I heard turkeys gobbling behind my house. :shck: Since I didn't have to leave for the appointment til 8:30 AM I decided to try a little calling with my inherited box call from the back porch. :yoyo:

The turkeys responded immediately and seemed to be getting closer. Here they are:

Three of them. All gobblers! I didn't have time to fool with them so I just took pictures.

I guess I need to hunt here one morning soon!

Pretty cool huh? After looking around for a few minutes they left. Couldn't find what was making those awful sounds on the box call.
Went out this morning (Friday May 2, 08) behind the house. Heard one gobbler way off. Tried calling him. No luck.

Now thats a great way of beating the high cost of gas. Looking good and good luck. Hope you are not to ill to hunt as I think I may have missed the appointment.
pitw,
Not ill at all, just an annual check-up. Came through with flying colors. But it is hard to get an appointment so I couldn't miss it. Went out there this morning and tried calling but no luck. Heard one quite a ways off but it wouldn't come any closer. I will keep trying. I think I will use the .22 here since it is so close to other houses!?!? Maybe try for a head shot??
Jim
Awsome Jim just Awsome!
Cool deal Jim!! Good Luck!!
you lucky devil , wish I had em in the back yard like that :yoyo: Wack that one with the long beard !!!
Well you got your scouting done!
They're just showing off for the camera :rolleye:
Some people have all the luck! Ya got 'em in your front yard and your back yard. Wow! :shck:
Did ya ever hook up with one?

I filled both my tags and told frogman I would try and call him one last sat. WOW nice spot to hunt.
I did some tree yelps and later a fly down cackle and GOBBLE GOBBLE!! two birds at first then the third and they were comming! I was in an old building looking at the decoys and no gun. Frogman was to my right outside in some brush for cover.
All of a sudden SNORT!!! right out side the building five deer about ten feet from Jim,...they winded us and I saw a hen running away at about fifty yds. The gobblers folowed her away from us and we had them gobble a few more time from another set but no luck this day just some fun. Jim could get one if he put his mind to it. Or I will help him if he wants anytime Jim...I enjoyed it.
My view from the building......

What were you doing in a building?
Using it as a blind to call from......it is a kind of barn that is falling in.
Oh hey, now that woulda been some footage...CCCRRRRaaaashh :roflmao:
Al,
Thanks for calling for a newbie. You sounded so real, that a couple of times I looked past the building because I thought a real turkey was over that way. Those deer camt to within ten feet of me. It was kind of neat, but I was hoping for a turkey with a longer beard than the one you got!! :eyebrow: :sneer:
I'l try to get back out if it quits raining.
Jim
Go for it Jim a couple of those birds can win this thing. But ya gotta be there when they come... :innocentwhistle:
I would love it if ya beat me Jim
