Title: a new toy

i left work early thursday and went to the local gun store and was looking around and i saw a h&r sprotster in .17hmr for a 132.00 dollers topped it with a bsa sweet 17 scope for 135.00 and came home with it now i'm mostly a bow hunter but have to say i like this round i'm going to use it for woodchucks and maybe fox how would it work on coon how much fur damage would there be or should i stick with my 22 mag and my bow for coons

I've only shot a few critters with mine, but did notice that the 20 gr Gamepoints don't blow up as bad as the 17 gr HPs.

I too am a fan of the gamepoint but have had trouble with it in the wind. I have a savage with the bull barrel, I do not shoot it much other than squirrles. I shot one squack at 110 yd.  :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:ya gotta love that! :eyebrownod:

I've shot the VMAX, ballistic tips, hollow points, and FMJ's.  The only fur friendly round has been the FMJ.  Ofcourse, shot placement is key.  But the .17HMR is so darn accurate that its cake.  I too have the savage with the bull barrel and i believe that round to be USELESS in the wind.
