Title: Trophy kidneystone particle
Post by: possumal on June 14, 2008, 05:19:58 AM
This probably should go on Vic's post about his kidneystone surgery, but I couldn't find it real quick, and have to get out of here. So I'll post it seperately just to show you guys what pure terror is all about.  Notice the printed part about what Dr. Grimm told me, and compare this particle to the dime I placed in the picture.  It still breaks me out in a cold sweat thinking about the whole deal. Anybody who has gone through any phase of the kidneystone game knows what I mean. "Willysnake" will never trust me again! :laf:

Todd: Dr. Grimm said the particle was approximately 1/5 of the original stone.  He had me scheduled for lithotripsy the next morning, but somehow that thing got out into the tube and got stuck. The couldn't attack it from all sides like if it had stayed in the kidney, so he could only break it into pieces.  The final particle represented the side he couldn't get to.  One thing is positive; they'll never do to me what they did that time without putting me to sleep first.  Hell, I thought I was dying and sort of hoped I would.  It turned me white as a sheet when he got a grip on that thing and brought it out.  Taking the stint out two weeks later was about as bad.  I might have to drink a few cold Buds tonight to get that memory out of my head.   :argh: :puke:

Not a stupid question, Sweatybetty, but perhaps if you would Google "Kidney stone", you'd get a better answer than mine. That being said, it is a stone formed in the kidney that tries to get out into the urinary tract for you to pass it.  It can be caused by a multitude of elements, according to the specialists, including eating too much green stuff like spinach in your salads, not drinking enough water to keep your kidneys flushed out and functioning, water with too much limestone, not enough limestone, and on and on.  In my case, and in the case of my oldest son, Al, Jr., we have had success in preventing reoccurence by regular intake of vitamin B-6 which breaks down the protein that forms the stones, and drinking lots of water and other liquids (Including a few cold ones each night). I have read many times that it is man's equivalent to a woman having a baby, as far as pain comparison goes.  If such is true, I have trouble understanding how a woman could get "Talked" into having children after her first.  Motherly love sure must be a powerful thing.
