Title: Snares
Post by: Buckrun on September 27, 2008, 09:09:26 AM
This is the first time I have ever used snares. I bought snares with the deer stop. They also have some kind of cone shaped little spring. What is the spring for?

I was thinking it is used to hang the snare.?

You are correct! some use a 9 or11 ga. wire to position the snare. the cone spring slips over the 9 or 11 ga. and is lightly crimped to hold it in place.

You shouldn't have to crimp anything. Just turn the whammy(sping-looking thing) so it screws on to the support wire.

:doh2: I forgot, you dont have to crimp the cone shaped ones. I make mine like a cylinder, so i crimp.

Thanks guys. I am planning on using some old cloth hangers for the support wire. The plan is to start making my set locations and putting the wire supports where I want them. Then when season opens I can just stake the snares and place them.

I want to get a bunch of the work done before season starts so I can just place traps fast!

Don't know how well this will work.
