Title: New coyote gun
Post by: Brad H on September 29, 2008, 08:27:49 PM
Since the minute I got into calling coyotes I've been a Swift shooter. I've just replaced one recently with a Kimber 84M Pro Varmint in Ruger 204. I just got it and haven't even pulled the trigger yet. I've read a lot of good thngs about the 204 and have been ready to try something different. It's been a long time since I've been this jacked about a gun.

I put my Burris Sig and short Harris on it.

These pics didn't turn out like I thought they would but I guess they're OK.

It's a Kimber Brad!! It's gonna look good.

Nice rig & I think you'll like it. The 204 guys are shooting the 35gr Bergers & dropping them dead quickly with very little pelt damage if that matters to you.

Congratulations on the fine new rig & I hope you get to enjoy it for many many years to come.  :congrats: :congrats:

And for all things 204  :readthis:  http://www.204ruger.com/forum/

It's darn sure a sharp lookin' shooter. I can't wait to get the time off to sight this thing in.

I love both my Rugers but I think this will be a pleasure to shoot.

Thanks for the invite there Glen. I was actually directed there awhile back and registered. So if you could do me this favor.....let someone in admin know to activate Brad H who's been waiting for the activation email since Sept 5th.

Thanks!

Dang fine looking rifle if I do say so myself.  Then you add that Kimber name to it and it goes even higher.  Keep us posted on how it is shooting for you.

That rifle ought to make you a happy camper, Brad. Surefire paper puncher too. Keep us posted on your luck with it.

Looks good. I have some shells for you if need be. We will have to see if you can hit anything this winter.

I got my Burris mounted and manually bore sighted it myself. A friend and I took it out to the range today and sighted it in. I hit paper right away and ended up shooting 16 Hornady 32gr varmint factory rounds from it. I was able to touch holes in the end when I had it zeroed at 100. This rifle is something else. It has the feel of shooting the Swift but with half the recoil. And the action is flawless. Next day off I get I'll be out calling and will be anxious to see how the coyotes react to the other box + 4 rounds of these 32's.

And another satisfied 204 owner!!  :eyebrownod:

Brad-- Are you going to handload for this rig? Keep the fur? If so I highly recommend the Bergers for fur. The 35gr Bergers have become the go to bullet for fur minded hunters everywhere. They leave very very tiny entrance holes & about 99% of the time no exit with a bang flop. HTH

Glen,

I will most certainly be loading my own and will be keeping the fur. I need to get set up for that in my new place yet. More than likely be setting back up in a friends garage so he can reload for his 270. I've read good things about the Berger's in the past couple years. The "bang flop" is what I've read so much about with this chamber with multiple weighted bullets too. I like that, I'm not used to seeing a coyote twitch after pulling the trigger on the Swift and was looking for the same in something different. That Swift also toned my skills with a sewing needle so less rip and tear will be appreciated. I wish I had the time to do the load experimenting to see what this gun likes and dislikes, but I know people I can consult till I do.

Thanks Bob. I'm reserving the rest of my thoughts till I get a few coyotes down. But I'll sure let you know as it happens.

Brad
