Title: A poem "Redlegs" enjoy
Post by: Silencer on October 22, 2008, 04:58:03 AM
_______________"Redlegs"________________

...I stood where a thousand hunters had passed,
a trail of footsteps leading from the past.
...My footprint added to all the rest,
wondering how I measured against the best.

...The wind, the cold, the day to be,
with Max my dog and only me.
...On rippling wings the strangers came,
with dog and gun I whispered their name...Redlegs!

...On a closing spiral they circled my spread,
I shoudered my gun knowing one soon to be dead.
...Echoing thunder he flared from the sound,
still on he flew ever defying the ground.

...I knew in my mind the aim was real,
could it be that damned old steel?
...I fired again with iron from my gun,
then there lay Redlegs, he was all done.

...Max made the retrieve that day in the past,
one page in a story that builds on the last.
...A story that's still repeated across this land,
and yet with my calls, a tarnished band...from Redlegs!

( Not sure the author, but its not me. )
