If I was a dog, I don't think I would want to tackle an animal that has a mouth twice as large as mine. Seems like one of his bites would equal two of mine. I also don't know if I could chew his legs off before he got ahold of my neck and shook me. :shck:
Jerry
so.............. are you saying if you were a dog youd be a Pomeranian?
Why is he using dogs?
those dogs hunt everything from mice to coyotes including bobcats.
they dont like yotes and will get out of the truck before you do if you catch one, i found that out last year when i caught my first yote in wyoming.
they love to hunt and will hunt anything. theyre doing what they love.
Interesting stuff. Very cool pics. :yoyo:
Why are you putting em on cuffed coyotes? Are you training them to hunt?
Hunting I get.......trapping with a dog
Still Verry cool :eyebrownod:
a lot of trappers have dogs trained for the line.
I'm still interested, your holding out on us Cathryn. :eyebrownod:
Tell us how this works. Do the dogs kill the coyotes, or where do they come in to the picture?
you ever train a dog to hunt coon? its the same thing. you have to let the dogs get a taste of their prey, so to speak.
they can kill them but it is not the wanted outcome of the situation. you are allowing the dogs to hone their hunting skills by interacting with a live coyote under controlled circumstances.

Nope, but if you look at the mouth on those dogs and the mouth on that coyote, the coyote wins out.
Jerry
A lot of the guys who train dogs to be decoy dogs take them on their trapline with them. Nothing like showing them coyotes up close and personal. Those darned Jack Russell terriers think they can whip a doberman. They are about as game as any dog alive. Some of the fellows have crossed them with breeds like airedales to put that extra grit in there. Great pictures!
Ahhhhh, thanks cathryn that makes sense. :eyebrownod:

+ 1
Back when I trapped I only had rabbit dogs........
I would love to have a coyote dog :eyebrow:
That's pretty cool. Thanks for sharing that.
Looks like the terrain in northeast Wyoming. Is it?
I have been doing the same thing with Dixie she has came along very well and putting them on Coyotes in the sets helps them get the feel for whats going on. I done the same thing with my Jack Russell when he was a pup. Only on everything from Coons to Coyotes, and groundhogs. I bring Dixie along anytime I am running a coyote job, and bring her home coons and squirrels as well.
I started her out with just a coyote hides in the yard. The hunting is natural to them its the obedience part that take some time.....lol
