Way to go topdawg! :yoyo: :yoyo:
How about the rest of the story? Call used, terrain, etc. I would really like to get a cat.
Pat
That's awesome topdawg :yoyo: feel proud you deserve too. I too would like to call in and shoot a cat someday.
the call was a sceery Variable pitch i think .... the terrain was a partly logged ridge were i was at and the cat came from a swampy low line bottom area i was trying to do a cat in distress with the call trying to get a coyote to come in. I have been blowing a rabbit distress figured would try something different ...and i got something different go figure
Here is my entry. Taken about 9:00 this morning. My Olympus camera will not display the date so I hand wrote it on the picture. It didn't photograph well so I included a close up of it. Yes that is coyote blood on it.

Semp, It has one of those decoy hearts in it to make it wobble around. It'll run about 3 hrs on a AA battery. And it's not too noisy.
Man, I love the crosseyed shot. Thats great! :yoyo:
Dung Beetle and I hunted a couple of properties in Middle Tennessee. We covered about 1000 acres on Friday with no takers, only to have a pack open up around 8:30 pm, three hours after we called that very spot. :madd:. Saturday we hit a 900 acre farm down the road, the temps were high, the wind was howling, and my confidence was low. Making only half the stands we wanted (due to the winds) we packed up and decided to head back to camp with our tails between our legs.
Talking about the pack that had eluded us we figured that we would change up the calling, no distress sounds, just howling. So just before dark the winds started to lay down. We set on the edge of an open field with some fresh sign and I let out a lone howl. And AGAIN nothing! Now we don't normally set on the edge of a field or howl but heck nothing else was working.
Sunday morning rolls around and it's almost time to pack up and head home. We've walked our tails off and have nothing to show for it, but heck whats one more stand. We set up on a fence row looking into a small section of woods and hit the AP9 and in just seconds this male is standing in a low gap of the field. He starts to move away from us but for some reason stops. I put the .223 on him and squeezed. He dropped like a rock :yahoo: Now I normally carry the shotgun and my partner carries the rifle, we normally don't hunt fields, and I normally don't bark or howl much, but I guess it's good to change things up just to see what happens.

While at the Redbird Hunt on Friday evening Alscalls and I did a set up looking down into a wooded holler that was less steep than some we had been hunting in. I could see pretty well down a couple of flats. We planned to make this our last stand of the day and intended to stay longer til nearly dark. After calling for a while I let Al know that I intended to move a little further out to my left. It appeared that I would be able to see even better there. After this move we resumed calling with Al doing some howling and the Scorpion also howling. I was about ready to give up the stand after nearly 30 minutes and called Al on the radio to have him come over to my location and see what a great spot it was. That's when I saw a coyote below me on the next flat down and about 75 yards away moving slowly to my left. It seemed to not be paying any attention to the calling?? When it came into a good firing lane between the trees I fired and put him down. I was a very excited coyote hunter. Seems like the excitement level is still right up there with the first one I killed!! We used my Scorpion e-caller, Al's howler, and the R-15. Time was about 6:00 PM. Thanks to Alscalls for the excellent howling and for going down the hill and dragging the dog back up to me!!
Jim
