Went out hunting with a new buddy Sun. afternoon. I'd just finished making myself a Buckeye Burl call that morning. (Missed church, my daughter was sick). Went out to a farm he had access to, it had never been called on before. 1st stand, 1st time calling with this call, 1st cadence....this gip comes bouncing out of the tree line up on a hill across from us. I didn't see it but he waved at me. So I get quite for a couple of minutes. I'm thinking shoot, shoot, ....SHOOT! Nothing, so I start back up.....BANG Flop! Seems it stopped behind some cedar tops and he couldn't see her. She just needed a little more encouragement. He made a great shot at about 150+ yards through some tree tops! He's not a member here so couldn't enter her in the contest. Here are a few pics, the first one is from a little in front of where he shot her from. I circled the yote.
