Title: Bobcat Country with Weedwalker Ed
Post by: possumal on January 04, 2009, 09:19:28 AM
Went up to bobcat hunt bright and early yesterday with Weedwalker Ed.  That big footed rascal needs to change his name from Weedwalker to Ridgerunner or something similar.  The weather was a lot warmer than either of us prefer, and the cover is such that we were limited to setups where you at least had a chance to see a bobcat if he moved.  With some snow on, the possibilities would be endless.  No takers on this hunt, but it sure won't be this old possum's last attempt to fool one of those spotted rascals. Plenty of tracks on the logging roads, some of them big ones.  I have included three pictures of the country including one of our setups on zoom.  The blue strap on the ecaller shows its location of a stump.  If you look really close, you may pick up Ed's bird decoy which he made.  It is a dandy, with the slightest breeze making it twist and turn.  Also, I got to visit "Max", the Yellow Blackmouth Cur that Ed got from me, and is he ever something!  Built like a tank and he obviously loves that big monkey Ed.

I had a good time out yesterday with Possumal hunting bobcats. It would've been nice if we had a bobcat come in on us. There are several cats in that area. I've seen some big ones in there in the past. All we had were a buch of turkeys around our last stand.
You'll have to come back down when we got an inch or two of snow. It makes the cat hunting a lot easier.

A day in the woods is never wasted.   :nono:   Nice pics and that does look like good bobcat country.

What sounds were you using?  Birds?

We used several different bird sounds mostly. Like Lucky Bird, Yellowhammer and some others. We threw in some bobcat in heat once in a while. And also tried a few high pitched distress like baby ferrett and cottontail. On our 1st stand we had my bird decoy out with Al's hawk decoy above it. A hawk came swooping past us and went right for the decoys. But they survived the attack.

Cool pic's,  What kind of gun do you shoot in that heavy cover?  Look's a mite thick for anything small and fast.

Possumal had his .243 for any longer shots. And I took my 12 gauge with "BB" shot. Most of the places I hunt are pretty thick and I use the shotgun a lot.

You guys ain't seen nothing yet.  I know you have all heard of giving somebody the bird, but Weedwalker Ed has his own version of it. Here is Possumal's Bird as given by Weedwalker Ed.   I am impressed that he put such a pretty pecker on it.  :laf: :eyebrownod:

Vic, thanks. Yeah I made it. It's just some styrofoam balls with some feathers stuck in it. They don't weigh anything and move with hardly any wind at all. Just something to get their attention.
