Title: scroll saw or band saw?
Post by: sharkathmi on January 16, 2009, 08:46:31 PM
OK Guys, I need some good advice based on your years of hard earned experience.
If you were to choose between a 9 inch band saw or a 16 inch scroll saw, which would you choose, and why?
The ones I'm looking at are both Sears Craftsman and run ~$120 for either. I can get them in town.
I need to cut curved lines in the call blanks to do some crazy laminates.
Just like in that book "Turning Custom Duck and Game Calls".
In years past I borrowed a band saw and it was a pain to deal with, the blade was always coming off.
I don't really want to live through that again so I'm leaning towards the scroll saw.
So, am I going in the right direction with the scroll saw?
Talk me into one or out of the other.
I'd like to hear what you have to say.
Thanks for your comments.

M

PS – Here is a sneak peek at what I've been up to.

Listen .......I have both, You should get the scroll saw now and save for a better band saw later.
I only say this cause I feel my small band saw is too small and not good enough quality to give me the cuts I need to be at my best. You can get by with the scroll for now and will always have use for it later. But do not skimp on the band saw or you may regret it as I do mine now. My 2 cents........I hope it helps you.
