opens in 2 months!!!! :shck:
Man I'm ready!! Anybody else got the fever yet?? :yoyo:
I've been watching tons of hunts on tv, had the calls out a time or two. Sure am getting the spring itch. I think ours is 2 months from this Saturday.
I'm bringin the 7 yr old on a youth mentored hunt. 3inch .410 6 shot @ 15yds baby !!
Should be another exciting fun year, always is :yoyo:
:yoyo: Hope that spring season goes well for you 2!! I think it would be cool to see your boy whack one with the ol 410!! Good Luck!!
I've been perusing the Cabelas site & some others looking for a new turkey vest. I had about $200 left from the Red Bird trip & I'm looking to spend it. :innocentwhistle:
Hey Glen
For a turkey vest check this out......... http://www.wingsupply.com/shop/Scripts/prodViewSKU.asp?SKU=MO4331
Its a Mossy Oak 3-D Elite vest. It has lots of pockets and is light weight. My old vest was 20 years old and flat wore out so I picked up one of these. I don't think you'll find a better price for that vest anywhere.
Semp
Thanks Semp. I was just their looking at those. I get their sales ads in my email & just saw that. I'm actually looking at this one from Cabelas.
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0044372932776a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCHFEAT_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntt=turkey+vests&Ntk=Products&sort=all&Go.y=5&_D%3AhasJS=+&N=0&_D%3Asort=+&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form1&Go.x=9&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1
I'm hoping it will take some of the weight from my neck & shoulders & move it to my waist.
Glen, you're not turkey huntin with that, yer goin to war on em !!!
I will have a WV and Ohio license Glen ......I hope we can hook up somewhere Sometime.
Damn straight it's a war!! :eyebrownod:
I sure hope we can Al!! I'm still trying to decide to take my turkey days on Ohio's 1st week or W Va's 1st week. :innocentwhistle:
I am licensed to call and kill in both and I am now out of a job sooooooo......Its killin season!
:roflmao: :roflmao:
Glen,
It looks like it will be a difficult season for me. Right now I only have permission to hunt on two properties.
Jerry
P.S. I watched over 50 on the one property and I saw the other property owner and he said that he counted over 40 between his house and the woods.
Is Public ground an option Jerry? There is a lot of it down this way in Ohio And I will Be hunting some of it.
Well you know I'm pulling for you Jerry!! I think you'll figure something out before it ends. Good Luck!! :yoyo: And if you want to try some hunting this way just holler. We'll figure something out.
I really should be in pretty good shape - assuming that I can get the time to go out and hunt. There are more and more turkey hunters around here, but both properties are posted and I am the only one that is allowed to hunt on them. Think of it as my own hunting preserve. :innocentwhistle:
Jerry
:laf: Well you might be OK then Jerry!! :laf:
Went for a nice long ride this afternoon with the Wife & only seen a dozen birds. They were too far from the road on a bad curve & it's on land I don't have permission to hunt on so we don't know what they were. Still a nice ride on a sunshiny day tho. :yoyo:
Where's the pics? Were you driving or Diane? If you were driving what was she doing that she couldn't take pics
OOHh! maybe I don't want to know :innocentwhistle: :nono: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:
:laf:
:innocentwhistle:
Yeah, I'm getting psyched. The double T season is right around the corner, trout/turkey. I too have a license to kill in both oHIo and WV.
I think I'll to send in for my bonus PA turkey now that we're all speakin of having so many tags :eyebrow:
We get two bearded turkeys permits for the spring here. But I'm not good enough to buy them both together. :nono:
I am gonna try for a turkey again this spring
Had some close encounters last year.I hope to get them closer this year
Good Luck Bill. I hope you bag a nice one. :yoyo:
I'm ready to go ,Just need to shoot a few shell to make sure all is good then off for some spring action. :shck: :shck: :wo:
Went to Cabelas yesterday & pulled the trigger on a new vest finally. I think I'm gonna like this one for a long time to come.

Holy shit Batman!!! That thing has all the bells and whistles :laf:
I shot two birds last year..........called several for other folks......non of the birds asked what kinda vest I had on.. :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :innocentwhistle:
Yep!! I like to wear a vest so I went & bought a better one than the one I had.
Just keep shootin em the way you do Al. I know the vest won't/doesn't/can't/aint never gonna make me a better hunter. It's just the way I like to roll. Different strokes right?? :yoyo:
Sweet vest for sure.
Heck, half the fun of hunting is getting ready. New vest, new calls, patterning new shells, new camo hat, scouting, talking about it, etc. I should get a vest. I have a nylon belt that has a day pack bag on each side and a seat haning from the back. When I set up, I dig everything out; slate call, box call, push buton call, copper call, headnet, camo gloves, strikers. Then I put them in a semi circle around me and sit down. Takes forever, but I can't get into the bags too well while sitting on the ground.
There are other vests out there for a lot less money. With that comes less organization tho. My 1st vest had pockets VS the pouches for the individual calls. It sucks trying to drag a box call out of a pocket. The strikers ended up in the bottom of the pockets too. Now it's all organized where I can find it when I need it without any hassle. There's nothing wrong with any of the vests. It all boils down to personal preference. My Brother has killed gobblers with a shotgun, slate call & a striker. It don't get much more basic than that unless you ambush em over a feeder in the AM.

I know you were Al. Just didn't want any of the new folks thinking the wrong thing is all. Besides,, I had $$ left over from Red Bird.

The Toms were struttin & gobblin their fool heads off this AM everywhere we went!!! The hens were chasing them around!! We seen 4 Toms & heard two others gobbling. Also 2 Jakes were fanning but not gobbling. Hens everywhere & they kept the Toms gobbling as they travelled thru the woods in search of them. Today was the 1st AM that it was decent enough to get out & scout. The rest of the weekends ahve been rainy, windy or both. This AM was a cool crisp 32.6* when we left the house & the Toms were on fire!! :eyebrow:
I aint gonna be worth a damn at work for the next 2 weeks now.
Yeap Chris and I went for a walk last evening just before sundown and we could hear some toms
off in the distance and got to see one fly up to the roost
The bad part about that is I am not allowed to hunt there I can walk around there but can't hunt it :rolleye:
I think if I could get a more expierenced turkey caller to hunt with me we could call them off there
All the Toms today were out of bounds for me too Bill. Just keep an eye on them. A lot can happen in two weeks. They just might be looking for more hens by then in your area. I will help you out if I can but as usual,, no promises. Maybe Al can make it up this way. You do the scouting & he'll do the calling. Let us know.
Sounds like it should work
We can make this happen for sure...as long as I dont find a job first.....but we should be able to hunt Sundays too.

That we can do
I seen another nice Tom this afternoon & two more huge ones. Plus I just got permission to hunt there for groundhogs, coyotes crows. I have to wait & see about the turkeys tho. If there are other hunters there already I don't want to show up & torque somebody off with a turkey choke in a 12ga.
Tomorrow AM at 6:13 I will be out testing my brand spankin new rain gear in downpours while acting like I'm turkey hunting. :yoyo:
:rolleye:
Glen,
you are a more devoted hunter than I am. I think I will wait till Tuesday or Wednesday and not sit in the rain. That is the advantage of being retired - it is always the weekend or your day off.
Jerry
:laf: You're right Jerry. I also have a pop-up blind that they don't seem to care about. :eyebrownod:
Good Luck!! :yoyo:
I am going to look outside first then decide wither or not to go tomorrow....... :eyebrownod:
Had one coming in right away This AM!
Then we got cut off by another hunter that chose to use a hawk scream...an owl hoot and a gobble all in about 30 sec. :argh:
I coulda killed that bird but as it ran away from the Idiot someone else shot him...... Public ground in Oh. Yuk! :madd:
I got low and got outta there! After leaving my good mornings to the idiot! :eyebrownod: :innocentwhistle:
Using a gobble call in the woods is asking to get shot. I rarely use that call. That idiot will find out the hard way. :rolleye:
Sorry for the bad luck, Al. That's what ya gotta put up with on public ground. You'll get him next time. :yoyo:

Well I got me a bird yesterday AM!!!! I was running along just minding my own business on a 55MPH road here & just caught a flash of red to my left. I looked in the mirrors & didn't see anything tumbling on the road or feathers flying so I just figured the little birdie made is safely across in front of me. But to my surprise later on I found my bird. :nono:

First time I ever seen a turkey kill a cardinal....... :innocentwhistle:
I dont think you'll be able to go for the full mount on that one though looks a bit GRILLED :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:
:laf: :laf: :roflmao: :roflmao: :laf: :laf:
I suppose I could go pull the dang thing out of there. :laf:
:roflmao: :nono:
I dont think there's gonna be much breast meat on that one.
:laf: Clowns :laf:
Probably the only way I'll get one this year too. :laf:
Saw a hen run across in front of me yesterday, other then
that,, haven't seen or heard any thing else.
:laf: :laf: There wasn't much meat at all on that one!!
Hang in there Scott!! I seen 2 small Jakes & a big Jake this AM. The big one even gave me a courtesy goble as he was moving thru. :laf: They were all in a No Hunting Zone on public land. :laf:
1st gobble this AM was at 5:49. Last gobble was at 8:31AM. 1st shot was at 8:07AM & the end of the turkey war was 10:33AM!! :laf: :laf: One person emptied his shotgun,, 3rds,, then a couple minutes later I heard him fire 3 more shots as he chased it thru the woods. :rolleye: It's a damn bird. Just take your time & AIM!! One other hunter emptied his shotgun as well. The rest were single shot efforts. :yoyo:
There was a buttload of triple gobbles this AM. I was 100yds from one & every time he gobbled the one that was about 400yds out would gobble & vice versa. They were cutting each other off. It was really cool. The 400yd bird was waaaaaaaaay out of bounds for me. The 100yd bird was on private property I don't have permission to hunt so I gave myself about 30yds of cushion on the public land I was on. I was on the end of the ridge & he gobbled away from me. As best I can figure there were 7-8 birds gobbling in 5 different spots. There weren't any shots fired from one location but the other 4 got shot up purdy good. I'm thinking 4 or 5 went down this AM.
I didn't get to join the firing fracas today but it sure was great hearing all those birds gobbling. :yoyo:
This is your Ohio Spring Turkey Season halftime report. :laf: :laf:
Atleast you got to hear some gobbling
And where is the halftime show You know the dancing girls the advertising com'on Glen lets do'er right :roflmao: :roflmao:
:nono: You're just askin for the  ya know!! :laf: :laf:
I have no clue what to do next with these birds. Since I'm hunting public land it's too hard to figure out where the birds will be every night. Plus the added pressure of other hunters. So when I go out there I stand by the truck & wait for gobbling then I head to where I think I need to be. This AM I had what sounded like a Jake & a Tom gobbling bout 200yds off the road & to my left. The gobbling sounded a bit muffled so I figured they were facing away from me. I crossed the road & went down along the edge of the woods on a gas line right of way. About 1/2 way down the hill a nice big trail goes off to the left. It goes into a small clearing & goes out the right side of that & down over a small drop off. To the right, at the bottom of the drop off, is all open Maple trees. Very open area & probably an acres worth of area. It sounded to me like they were gobbling toward that area so I set up at the top of the drop off where I had a much better/broader view of the area. Now I'm about 130-150yds away from the birds that are still on the roost but gobbling. I gave a couple light yelps on the slate with no response. So I gave it a bit more volume & still got no response. Next thing I know they are flying down but slightly away from me. I hear them hit the ground & that was the last of them. No more gobbles & I have no idea where they went other than away from me. I didn't see hide nor feather of either one. So I walked down the road to where they were roosted & found another big open area. Very little turkey sign there & what I did find was older. This is getting frustrating to be so close & not even seeing one. On Sunday I had one gobble at me from 100yds down over the hill below this same clearing but wouldn't come up far enough to see my decoy or to get a shot at. As much as I enjoy spring turkey hunting I think I'll be glad when this one ends. :laf: :laf:
It's over for us. I hope Bill got one!!
Bill Didn't even go this morning :laf:
I'm right there with ya. Last day of season here. Just got back from
a brunch with our Pastor and his family, real full, might rain, colder, windy,,,
nap time or turkey huntin time????? We'll see.
 Didja eat too much Bill?? Sounds like Scott did!! :laf: :laf: Good Luck Scott!! :yoyo:
I did have one within 75yds or less this AM. Apparently I have the alarm putt down pat or something. All I did was purr to it & I never got to see it. He only gobbled for about 20 minutes out in front of me. Musta been fake gobblin.
Oh well. It's only 11 months til we get to do this all over again!! :yoyo:
I slept in and I knew I had a few other things to get done today

I'm with ya Bill, I did the same thing. I don't know what part of Ohio your in, but we have had nothing
but rain for the last two week. The sun poked up here and there, but the gumption was just not there.
Besides, what's the deal with noon being the cut off for hunting turkeys? Doesn't give the working man a chance!
Well...Dont feel bad about it fellas I did enough Ohio hunting for all of us today and I never even heard one..... :rolleye:
I saw 5 hens crossing the road when I was leaving about noon....Horrible season but I still had fun.
fin I live in East Central Ohio
Yesterday I called a hen off roost she flew down right in front of me was going to land then took off again.
When I first seen the bird I thought it could be a male but didn't see no beard so I let it go and watched it land
about 100 yards away. After clucking and calling for about an hour this hen came in around some mutiple rose bushes just a putting and a clucking to about 15 yards from me then she left a flying. That was the closest I had a turkey this season. There is always fall season
Hey Bill......I found those calls I lost.
In the wiring of the electric truck seat...... :laf:
And here you had me looking for them everytime I walked back there :nono:
Chris and I wondered if you looked in your truck :laf:

Not much ambition left. :nono: I'm sure I'll be ready to get back at it,
and get spanked by em again, by next year. :nono:
Do I gotta come down there and show you boyz how to whack a Turkey? :rolleye: :laf:
Jim,
We would be very happy to have you come down and help us. I even have a room that you can stay in.
Jerry
Oh this should be good.
And if you get one I will let you log onto FnF. If there is no bird there is no computer time. :rolleye:
Thats quite a risk :wo:
Yep come on down maybe we could get Kurtis to use the call :laf:
My season is still open for a week....Come on down Jimbo....I will leave about 4:30AM!..... :laf:
