Do you think the regs for legal weapons and ammo to be used for coyote bobcat and other furbearers are written clearly in the Ky hunting manual?
And I have been informed through a slightly heated discussion that T shot is illegal !! So please tell me the source of info you got that told you so if you asked authorities. You don't have to give a name just t persons position. Jimmie
The Kentucky hunting guide is some what confusing. The state refers to "small game" rules and "furbearer" rules in the same section in the guide. Coyotes fall under "furbearer" rules and the only restriction is no buckshot. T shot is NOT buckshot.
Small game rules requires a shot size no larger than 2 birdshot.
Sometimes people confuse coyotes with small game and that's when you get the "T shot ain't allowed" comments.
I'm not talking about LBL here, only Kentucky statewide. LBL is a different ball game.
I bought my first Ky Non res. license this year and I must say.......I was thoroughly Confused when I tried to read the regs. on the subject. I could not get a clear answer and got different answers from different folks on the phone.
I gave up and just asked on here what to do and hoped they were right.
I'm with Semp on this one. Coyotes and bobcats are NOT small game, they are furbearers. The shotgun restrictions on furbearers are:
Shotguns no larger than 10-gauge
Shotguns used to hunt furbearers must be plugged to hold a maximum of three shells
Using or carrying buckshot when hunting these species.
T-shot is NOT buckshot and therefore is legal for furbearers according to the Kentucky Hunting and Trapping Guide.
