Title: Zebra wood - duck call
Post by: duckslayer on March 23, 2009, 07:30:19 PM
Just thought that I would share, Love the wood, easy to turn and love the dark lines.  Not my favorite shape that I have done but I kinda screwed up ( went to deep on a cut ) so I had to make due.

Being an acrylic fan, and not even focusing on the wood, I gotta say that thing is kinda trippin my trigger. :eyebrow:

I would say if you made a mistake and had to make due, I would make that mistake again. I like that shape myself. A little bit of shape and a lot of flow to it.

I also wonder if mimosa and zebra wood are related somehow. The mimosa is just a bit lighter in color but the figure is much the same. Jimmie

I use esnips.com to load my sound files to the web, much like I use photobucket to uplaod pictures for sharing.

There is a tutorial around someplace on how to do it.  Let me see where it went.....

Thanks BigB for the info.  I went to there site but they no longer do that anymore but it gave me another website to go to and it worked.  Here are the sound files but please remember that these were recorded in my basement and that I am not a world champion duck caller.  I am still working on some different reed setups for the acrylic insert but I personal like this one.

You guys have sure made these old eyes look at wood differently.  I used to see things like 2x4 2x6 etc. now I see

The wood duck call is the one that I made out of the colored wood but I cant get ride of it for two reason 1) because it was my first wood duck call 2) because it cracked on me  :argh:  So I would not feel right giving that to someone.  I am going to work on some more wood duck calls here soon but I dont think I am going to make it as big as mine, I think it would be better if it were a small call because there is not much when it comes to guts in that call.
