I got invited to go hunt this feller's farm what you see in the pic is most of what I can hunt there
The top of the pic is North
the winds normally come from the south west
The buildings you see in the middle of the pic are the top of the hill and it slopes off to the East and West
My question is where on this property would you set up and why
We know there are coyotes there cause the landowner shot one on the North fence line while making hay last summer
He hears them around there and sees them in the field from time to time mostly when he don't have the rifle

Ok I am thinking of setting up where the woods come to the middle of the pic and calling South east from there kinda hoping the wind comes from the south west that gives me the big woods to call into
I am gonna have to take the chance that one don't come from the NE cause there are buildings and a home just on the other side of those woods I think there will be 3 guns me the farmer and his son
and I found out tonight Kurtis will be going along you know my go to call :biggrin:
When I asked the land owner if he cared that Kurtis joined us he was tickled and said sure bring him along
According to the weather I use on the computer Saturday AM winds will be ENE. If that's the case you could probably hunt the whole East side from South to North as long as the wind holds for you. About 1/3 of the way up the East side it looks like a clearing or ravine of some sort. Might be a good idea to watch that close. HTH & Good Luck!! :yoyo:

I'm going to say check for a saddle in the terrain, in one of the two locations indicated in my pic.
The lower purple oval is where the fingers of the timber protrude towards each other the furthest, providing the shortest distance for them to get from one side to the other with the least amount of exposure. They utilize landscape like this instinctively.
The upper purple oval being the fence line is natural gimme for a travel route providing concealment. Throw in saddled terrain on the fencline...and the ground there will be battered with tracks.

I like Jims idea of the lower purple point. I would personally favor the right side. Drive in to the south most building and walk in from there in the dark. Once you hit the east tree line you and Kurtis take an hour nap. Then work your way to within 100 yds of the east side of the evergreen thicket. Get setup give it 30 minutes and let him rip. Be ready!
I am hoping for a bigger pic. I think Jim is on the right track . From what little we can see there seems to be a loop in the travle lanes there. Either side of the place could work depending on where that bedding area might be. Jimmie

around this place and get a better lay of the land

Yep, we can now see the coninuos loop made through the area. It runs roughly east to west through that point. And look closely at all those connections through the fencrows and other features to all those woodlots. With the woodlots as scatereed as they are it won't be too awful hard to find the one they spend most of their time in. Scats will be abundant all around it. This one is where you can learn a great deal on your own. Not an awful lot of cover to sort through and sign should be exactly where it is expected to be. Talk to all the local landowners and spend as much time as you can walking and looking. With these spring rains coming right now tracks will be easier to age and find.
Withthe winds coming from the southwest on sunday , if you can find the right spot to put your scent along and slightly out into that field, they will come along that northern edge to scent check you if they can. This setup is way early in your education, but I know you can do it if you think it through. If you can't do it off that point use the oposite end of the fencerow.
Fellas, this is a really good one for all of you to study. Set up possibilities are numerous depending on winds. Look at all the connections made to other features on ht ground and make your choices. Lets stick with the southwest winds for idea right now. Use the whole pic not just the farm he has permission for.Jimmie
If you look South East of the point where I am planning my stand it look as though there might be a holler
running up through there to the pines
I know that could be a very good plce for a coyote to sneak up on us so I have a really good Idea
where to place the shooters
Kurtis and I will be right on the point doing the calling and watching the north fence line
If you look NE you can see the wood line take a dip that is also down hill from where I will be I think a shooter
should watch that and the other shooter should watch the field /wood line between the buildings and the east woods.
The buildings set on top of the hill,so that would be down hill there also.
With a lot of luck and what little skill I have I sure am hoping to call a coyote out of that woods :biggrin:

Well I didn't go hunting today.We had thunderstorms this morning and wind are 15 - 25 mph
With yotes it is better to all you can in your faver. The hardest thing to learn as Possum Al taught is not to educate the yotes and hunting in bad weather or wind you can do just that.P.S. I did the same, I stayed home today.
