Found a sign I thought was interesting on a back highway last week.

FWIW, right behind the sign it would kill a man to jump off, but a few feet left or right and he would merely slide and tumble till his skinned up carcase managed to stop itself or hit the river, which is a good 300 vertical feet below. A few feet farther away and a careful man could downclimb.
What is curious to me is why the highway department would put a sign here. It is a 100 mile long canyon with a road through most of that, and this is the only sign. For miles in either direction there are all kinds of cliffs and steep banks dropping off the winding road. Apparently it is OK to jump off any of the other places, just not here. :laf: If you ever go there, don't jump off.
Errata: The trip turned into an unplanned tour of a lot of country, due to road work on avalanches, etc. I decided to avoid bad construction on my route 1, found alternate route 2 closed when I got across the mountains, started for route 3, learned of a short cut logging road, and when I took it I guess that would make it my 4th choice of routing. I enjoy that kind of trip if I'm not in a hurry. I had a bowl of soup with a lady in an isolated store, who told me about the logging road short cut that I ended up taking.
Well ya know if they put a sign there,,
there's a really good chance that somebody('s)
done it. :laf:
Where abouts was all this at?

Scott, you are probably right that somebody jumped off and so they put up the sign. I hadn't thought of that and it is kind of sobering. Come to think of it, I can't swear to it that there aren't any other "No Jumping Off" signs along the canyon, but I never noticed any though I haven't been over this road in years. I pulled off at this spot to look at a small herd of bighorn sheep and then noticed the "No Jumping" sign. Some pics of the sheep in the big game forum titled "Scruffy spring bighorn sheep."
It is in the Fraser River Canyon in B.C., up the river 8 or ten miles from Lytton toward Lillooet.
Gotta admit a mistake and my gullibility. I drove past that sign the other day and realized that someone had carefully changed it from "No Dumping..." to "No Jumping..." The first time I noticed the sign and took the photo, I didn't pay it much attention and didn't go close to it, and took the angled photo of it from up on a pile of rocks where I was watching bighorn sheep. I kind of feel like an idiot. Not all that abnormal a feeling. :hahaha:
No sheep in the road this time, only a couple of mule deer.
Our DOT is just as dumb. You'll see a "Do not stop avalanche area, next 3 miles" sign, and with in that 3 miles you see 2 or 3 "school bus stop" signs.
In your case its probably a democrat thing, one guy jumps to probably kill himself, and the family sues the state for not having it posted, so the knee jerk reaction is to place a sign there by some college educated moron with no common sense.
It's still kinda funny Okanagan.
Considering the damage vandals have been known for.
