State trooper wounded when shot while hunting
The Associated Press  April 24, 2009

LONDON, Ky. -- A Kentucky state trooper is recovering after being accidentally shot while turkey hunting.

A state police spokesman said Trooper Jeremy Johnson is being treated at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, where he was listed in good condition.

Police spokesman Don Trosper in London said Johnson is assigned to the KSP post in Columbia. He was hunting with a friend, Mike Garner, on a farm in Wayne County on Thursday when a turkey took flight, passing between the two men.

Trosper said Garder fired and accidentally hit Johnson.

KSP Detective Doug Boyd is investigating and no charges are expected to be filed.

Stupidity thats how.

"Know your target and beyond", but for some folks the adrenaline wipes out everything they've been taught.
It should be instinct to be completely aware of your surroundings, where to, and where not to, point that gun even when in a split second decision.

It absolutely amazes me how the need to "kill" will out weigh the thought of safety. :doh2:
