Title: Turkey calling.
Post by: pitw on May 03, 2009, 10:05:29 AM
You guys know I don't have any wild turkeys to work with my calls but we learned something else this morning.  Went out to the chicken pen and Don started using the slate call [he's the only one makes a decent sound out of it yet] and the whole flock went absolutely silent.  The turkeys stood looking at where the sound was coming from[way cool].  Then Bob kicked in with the box call [making hen type sounds] and a 17 day old Tom immediately started strutting his stuff.  Kinda neat to see what different sounds do to the birds even if they are a bit of a captive audience.

I'm confused

You got turkeys in your chicken pen? Or the chickens acted this way?

Jim we keep our chickens and turkeys together,  248 birds[26 turkeys] went absolutely silent when Don scratched that call.  Never seen them do that with any other sound but a Hawk whistle.
