Me and paint went out for a hunt today fog everywhere very thick. You guys that know me know how I love hunting the fog.
Real thick fog gives me the chance to hunt fields and open ground I normally wouldn't be able to hunt.
We used one of Brent's bird sounds and my new whirling woodpecker decoy paint bought me. We called three coyotes on that stand after they checked there down wind side they came running on in. Once the lead coyote locked in on the sound and decoy it was a mad dash to get to it.
I was locked on the lead coyote with the camera and paint was locked on it with his new AR. At 20 yards he was ready to shoot perfect shot. I got greedy and stopped him knowing the coyote would pass closer. I was right he bailed on in right by us at less than 5 yards I'am waiting to hear the shot and see the coyote roll. The coyote continues as Paint barks to stop him he does not stop and continues toward the decoy then brakes back left and leaves. The three coyotes weave in and out through the cows.
Of course I was baffled by not having a coyote roll over at 5 yards. I ask paint why he did not shoot he said he couldn't see the coyote in the scope. When the coyote was coming he was on him when he crossed the ditch at 20 yards he had a good shot when I told him to let it get closer his breath fog the scope and he couldn't see.
Well after one more stand we went to gander mountain and paint owns a new red-dot scope. I tried not to rag on him but I did :roflmao:
Here are a few frame grabs of the coyotes there not real clear I shoot high speed trying to get the best slowmo

He should've whacked you over the head for not letting him shoot when he had target acquisition.......... :eyebrownod:
Oh I almost forgot.................nice pictures... :laf: :eyebrownod:
Heck, at 5 yards, I would have just stood up and uglied him to death LOL.
Nice pictures. Looks like they had some very nice fur on them too. Really healthy looking coyotes.

Nice story and pics,as always CCP.Just tell Paint to buy a good bayonette for that AR.We can even use this story against those anti gunners that say bayonette lugs dont belong on hunting rifles. :laf:
Nice pics and story. I have fogged up a few scopes but have been lucky enough to still see through them and make good shots.
:yoyo: Nice photos Rich. If those are stills off the video they stopped er pretty good. :congrats:
Ya know.....a fogged scope is caused from starin at the coyote too long don't ya? Ya get all jack up, adreniline flowing, heart pounding, you aint shot yet, your still staring, and the heart beats a little faster, pretty soon your panting like ya did at your first prom with Norma Jean. Remember that? :laf:
I just lick my thumb and wipe it in a circular motion across it.....course I did that at the Prom too :roflmao:
Great stuff Richard!!!!
Joe
Those are great shots (picture shots that is).

:roflmao: :roflmao: Pretty good there Hawk
Paint put his new redot on today and shot it at the range. They are not good for shooting groups thats for sure! But he is hell on a drink bottles with that thing. It is amazing how fast you can pick up a target and shoot with a redot.
here is a pic of his new setup before he paints it.

Here is a small clip from the hunt
(Edit to add) I left the caller on because I was using Paints caller and couldn't find the button, with the gloves on and trying to run the cam at the same time. It was running full blast the whole time and it was within 3 feet of the coyote as it went past us.
:yoyo: Nice clip but I was afraid you were going to come on at the end and start rappin! :whew:Hip hop coyote hunters? :laf:
Good job calling and taping Rich !! You never cease to amaze me bud ! :highclap:
Jim
even though the hunt didnt end like it should have i still had blast having three coyotes come in that close. i did get ragged all weekend though but got i a little revenge seeing ccp being scared to death by a little white puppy at a later stand. :roflmao:
