This week my son past all his tests for the Electrical Union, got his CDL and will leave next week to work up on the North Slope oil fields as an apprentice electrician. Then last night while I was at my bear stand, my oldest daughters boyfriend proposed to her, they have been dating for five years, she will finish her degree this year and then get married.
Last night, after three weeks of trying to be at the stand when what I thought was only one bear was coming in, two showed up. It rained for an hour or so and as I sat there I figured if I gut it out the bear will show up when the rain stops. It quit at about 1130 and just before midnight two came in, one, right down my trail the other 15 feet off the trail. They both were over 6', maybe 6'6", nice sized bears to be sure. Their hides were rubbed, one had his back rubbed from butt to head, the other was questionable but I was not willing to kill it to find out. I tried taking a picture once I decided I was not going to shoot them but I could not figure out my wife's camera and how to stop the flash from going off. I watched them for twenty minutes or so and fired a shot and they took off. I am done for the year, no bear this year, but two that will only get bigger for next year, all in all a great week.
Hunt hard, Die tired

Gotta love a good news thread. Good for your boy to get his tickets and even better for your daughter to get her man. I was wondering if after five years is he still afraid of you? As for the bears it sounded like a great ending as you got to fire a shot and keep your hands clean. Good work you have done John. :yoyo:
Congrats to your son and daughter, John! :highclap: Its always pleasing to hear about good things happening to good people. Thanks for sharing. ;yes;
By the way, the bears will be back next year. Getting game isn't the main reason I hunt and it sounds like its the same for you too. :yoyo:

I sure hope (for his sake) that he was smart enough to have asked you first. :shck:
As for you son and the bear, congratulations. If the daughter's boyfriend didn't talk with you first you can always tell him that he can run, but will just die tired after your hard hunt.

Congrats to the boy on all accounts. He's got a good teacher. :wink:
Congrats all the way around! Now, how to deal with the empty nest. I guess you'll have to hunt more. :yoyo:
