Post by: HaMeR on June 17, 2009, 06:43:00 PM
A co-worker gave me a nice Nebraska 8pt rack to work with & this is what he gets in return.  He chose the Buck clip. Not too bad for a 1st go round altho once again the picture sux!!  :laf:

Very very nice work! :yoyo:
Did you make that box also? I really like that too. Gives the already rich looking a pens an over the top appeal.

Great looking set Glen!!  :yoyo: :yoyo: :yoyo: :yoyo:  Real cool box too.
So how did the drilling go for ya?

Next time take em outside in the sun to take the pics so I dont have to see your bathroom or the dirt in  your keyboard again... :laf:

 :roflmao:

Thanks guys. I bought that box for a graduation set I made for a fine young man that also shares our passion for the great  outdoors & the 2nd Amendment.  :yoyo:   I just borrowed it for a quick pic on the desk here.  :eyebrownod:

The drilling went very well. The turning was the tough part. Somebody told me it's about like turning Ebony.  :nofgr:   I never had to sharpen tools that much on ebony before!!  :nono:

I gotta say this antler stuff wasn't so bad overall. I turn in the garage so smell was never an issue with both doors open.  It also seems that some of this stuff finishes smoother than others. The pen is slick but the pencil has a tiny feel of rough to it. So little it can barely be felt. The 3rd pen I turned today was very smooth too. I used the same procedure for all 3. I have 3 more pens to make from this & they will be for sale here.  :eyebrow:

Geez Glen.  I won't be able to watch deer walk by without thinking how they'd look on your lathe now. :argh:  Great looking instruments right there in that cool looking box.
