My son and I recently returned from a two week Safari in Namibia.
One of our PH's (Professional Hunter) loves to hunt jackals. He (Bollie) had a couple hand calls, but he confided that he had been utterly unsuccessful in calling them in. We decided to go out calling the second to last night of our trip.
I ran the light and did the calling while Bollie was the shooter. If memory serves correctly, he was using a Ruger Hawkeye .308 Win stoked with 165gr. Hornady BTSP.... quite a bit of gun for jackals! lol
Our first stand we called in an African wild cat within 5 minutes. I suppose "wild cat" to the Africans is feral cat to us as it looked like a regular 'ol Tom to me. Bollie's .308 sure did mess him up!

Next two stands we had no customers.
Fourth stand we called in a pair of bat eared fox. They're a protected species, and unfortunately my camera's flash was not able to pick them up due to the distance. However, here's a picture of one in the day time:

Our six stand we finally found success! Within 10 minutes we had a pair of jackals come bounding out to the call. Bollie was able to nail the first, but the second headed back for the brush never to be seen again.

Bollie picked up a few pointers on how to properly run the lights, setup, and calling tips. He's now a born-again jackal hunter and is eager to try it again.
That looks and sounds like wayyyyyy too much fun.
The Tom got a taste of a 308 uh? He looks like he was sucking on an M80 :laf:
Awesome pics, thanks for bringing em in.

Putdy cool Fos!! I like those Jackals. They look like a red & grey fox mix.
I always wanted to take a crack at a jackel, it sounds like fun.
