Nice looking call and I agree with you that it would look better like it is rather than bleached white.  What wood did you use?

Manzanita ....Larger pieces of it wants to crack so I have not figured out yet how to make a whole call out of it....

Is it checking on the ends or is it cracking all the way through?  If it is dry and checking on the ends you can seal it up with thin CA glue and that will hold it while you make the call.  Then make sure to get a good finish on it to seal it up and keep it from checking further.  If it is cracking and dry then I am thinking fire wood.

I just did a search on Manzanita and it seems that they like to use it in aquariums, perches, and decorations.  Interesting looking wood.

They are small dia. logs and they are stress cracks appearing mostly around the outside edges after releaving the stress by cutting off the bark sides....the wood is very dry.  I just got 2 pieces for now large enough for calls but the last one I tried cracked right up the side in the middle of the turn.
