Most here at Fins and Fur know that I am pretty much fascinated by anything that deals with Alaska and her outdoors, to include wild flowers. These were all taken by my wife on Eagle Summit in Interior Alaska today, I am working up in this area about 120 miles from Fairbanks, I saw all the Fireweed during the week so I packed a lunch and drove up today with Dian (wife) so she could enjoy the scenery and school me on what flowers were what, how she knows all these is beyond me. Fireweed is common here in Alaska and is the first plant to show up after forest fires (hence it's name). This is not the manliest of posts, but as my wife told me "Sometimes you have to stop and smell the flowers" All the flowers (not the Fireweed) were photographed within one square acre on the alpine meadows of Eagle Summit.

Gorgeous shots. I love fireweed, even planted some in our yard when we lived out in the bush. But I've never seen such a concentration anywhere in my life as in your photos of the whole hillside saturated with their color. Thanks!
WOW!, that was actually really cool the way you photo'd that.
I kept thinking is he going to get close enough for me to see that stuff, come on a lil more....lil more........and then whammo...I'm sneezing up a storm. :laf:
Thanks for sharing those.
Tik if being manly means I couldn't enjoy scenes like that then I don't want to be manly. Those are too cool. When I see that many weeds together I almost start to drooling. I'd like to see you in your pink camo though :laf:
Pretty COOL John thanks for sharing as I will never be there' and I like seeing all I can........I bet the bees like it there.... :laf:
John, a great post that shows the true beauty of Nature! I was schooled in the identification of tree's (Dendrology). So if it has a commercial value, I am usually able to identify, or recognize its features. Sadly I know nothing in regards to flowers and shrubs. So in my ignorance, (and to tick off the wife who's up to date on all her flowers and plants) I call everything "posey's" There's alot of meaning to the phrase "Can't see the forest through the trees".. It's good that there's folks like Dian that sort of force us to open our eyes once in a while. Alaska is truly beautiful!
Dave
VERY nice pictures. That is the first time that I have seen a large area of fireweed and as much as I dislike seeing fires, this would be a sure sign that life will be returning. The Monkshood, while a looker, can stay way up north. I may be able to get a few plant and scenic pictures toward the end of next month when we head back to Glacier National Park.

Great pics, John. I always enjoy your posts. :congrats:
Nice pics Tik!! You & Dian made up a very nice post. Thanks for sharing part of your day with us. As for the poseys,,,, well,,, I won't plant em or water em but I sure don't mind looking at em. :laf:
thanks for sharing them spectacular photos. AWESOME :yoyo:
Great pictures John. Thanks for sharing those with us. BEAUTIFUL!! That's your reward for being snowed in for most of the year!
Jim
Wow that Fireweed is pretty crazy. Never seen anything like that with such an area covered.
All the different flowers are are cool too. I have to remind my wife every spring when she asks
me for help potting and planting and watering etc. that it's her idea of fun, but not so much mine.
I will admit they look real nice when done though. I think they're even cooler when they're out
there "naturally" in nature.
Thanks for sharin. Or maybe we should thank your wife for sharin.
John,
What can I say that has not already been said. :yoyo:
Please thank your wife for us & thank you both for sharing a part of your life with us. :highclap:
Chet
nice pics :yoyo:
My words would cheapen that beauty. I tried to post earlier today on this thread and opened it up a few times to show the guys at my job. They thought it was pretty cool too. :highclap:
Beautifull. Thank you for the pics.
Yeah soemtimes you have to stop and smell the flowers to really enjoy life
