My wife found this guy while weeding out her flower garden.  She then wanted to know if I put him there.   :laf:

That is a nice looking snake. What kind of rattler is that. We don't have that color up here in the Dakotas.

Blacktail:  http://www.reptilesofaz.org/Snakes-Subpages/h-c-molossus.html

We live in Cochise county so the one on the right is the color we have.

I have a snake pole so he was placed in a bucket and moved.  We have a serious ground squirrel and pack rat problem on our property so we need all the help we can get to keep their population down.

Looks to be healthy and well fed.. I'd say it has been doing a pretty good job helping you with the resident rodent population.

I'd say he wouldn't last long once I saw him. They'll line their head right up with the barrel if you stretch the rifle towards them.  :laf:

My dad use to keep an oily tow chain in the back of his truck when we lived out west. It wasn't a good idea to fire a gun around oil wells, so if he saw a rattlesnake he'd start swinging that chain overhead. When he got it going pretty good, he would swing it at the snake. Those big dummies would strike at it. DEAD SNAKE!!  :eyebrow:

His second choice was to sing them to sleep like Alscalls does squirrels.  :roflmao:

Just the thought of those things being out there would make me awfully careful picking out a perch.  No like Mr. Tighteyes.  :eyebrow: :rolleye:

A few years back I was sitting up on a big rock using the rocks below to rest my feet on.  After a few minutes of calling I felt something on my feet, a quick glance down and I saw a rattler slithering out from under the rock I was sitting on.  Once he got completely out from under the crevice I estimated him to be about 5'.

If that happened to me, there would be something brown and smelly present and an immediate need for a scivvy change.  :laf: :eyebrownod: :nono: :rolleye:
