In all my years of calling I have never seen a black coyote. I'm interested in any sightings you guys may have had of any. I would really like to get one before I hang my guns up. Have gun will travel.
I've seen one. It lived in the edge of Vernon, BC for two winters that I know of during the early-80's. Most of the coyote hunters knew about it and I saw it a few times on snowy fields. Too mixed in with houses and small fields on the edge of town to legally shoot a firearm. Don't know if any bow hunters tried for it but I never heard of anyone killing it. There seem to be more black ones in the southeastern US.
.
I have seen 2. One was dang near jet black, I was feeding cows and I couldn't get my truck stopped fast enough to get a shot. The following year I jumped one while moving a bunch of cows. It was a charcoal color, I tried like heck to run him down horseback and get a rope on him but he had too much of a lead on me. I haven' seen one since. That has been 6 years ago.
I have however caught one with a rope before :nono:....gets pretty western in a hurry :laf:.
Lucas
I have seen one while hunting......Very brief and no way I could shoot.......Seen another one while driving to my uncles farm And of course we got a real good look at it as we were not allowed to hunt there..... :laf: :laf:
Come on out to South Carolina. I have had pretty good luck with them around here. I have called up a total of 7 of them. Though they are not an everyday sight but I do get at least one a year.
One morning I called up two on different farms. Choked the shot on the second one but did manage to get one of them. I have plenty of pictures if anyone is interested.
Mr. Black Coyote Magnet ^^^^^^^ :iroll:

Maybe we should take a poll?
:roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:
I have seen one here and I didn't even have a gun or a camera and heard talk of another one about 20 miles from me
Check out this thread, John. Several pics of black coyotes there.

WOW Semp that's a nice looking black one. CF.223 I have a good friend near Ft Jackson that I haven't seen in years may have to go visit. Are you near there?
I don't know exactely where Fort jacson is at but I don't think it is to aweful far. Heck one end of the state to the other is only 5 hours.
Seems like there was a black one posted on here about a year ago, maybe CCP? I have seen one solid black coydog I couldn't get a shot at, and a black coyote I killed. The picture doesn't do it justice as it appears dark grey. It was black as hell lying on the snow. Here he is:

Fort Jackson is near Columbia about a 2 1/2 hr drive from Ronnies.cc
centerfire_223 is still wearing the Championship belt for black coyotes.
In fact before your time JohnP, there was quite a comical commotion going on in here as one of the call makers that was providing centerfire_223 with custom calls, decided to name the one that was calling all the black coyotes, the "crackpipe". :roflmao:
I named that call Jim. :eyebrownod:
That call has called up coyotes from New Mexico to South Carolina. That is one AWESOME sounding call.
I was going to show a picture of it but I can't find photobucket. Is it still there?
Yeah, still there. The picture of the black coyote I posted was on there.

Some nice looking coyotes. Thanks for sharing all those pictures, now I am more determined to get one. I noticed cc shot one in Georgia. I was at Fort Benning for a while and did some calling and even killed a few but never saw a black one.
I could show you right where one is if he is still alive.Sorry rascal woke me from aperfectly good nap one afternoon :rolleye: Jimmie

JP, Our Club Property is about 30 miles from Augusta Ga. Another Black Coyote was spotted last year near where Ronnie and I killed the last one also one was spotted near where I live this year, a place Ronnie and I have called several times, I actually called up a Black Coyote on this property 2 years ago and my shooter missed him, it seems there are more Blacks in this part of the country. If ever in the area give us a call and we will take you around and see if you can call one up. cc
Don't be surprised if one of these days you get a phone call, keep the beer cold.
You got it. cc
Ya know, I'm about 20 minutes from SC just east of charlotte.
Come on down and hunt with us, whenever you can.

If you don't jump at this Bushy your a schmuck! :eyebrownod:
If I lived any where around Charlotte I'd be looking for any excuse to get away! :puke:
And BTW if you take the long way around Charlotte you might get there sooner.
:laf:
vvarmitr , what did poor old Charlotte do to you? Throw you over for another feller? :roflmao: She spoke highly of you, even said you were the best of the best! :laf: :eyebrownod: :nono:

Make no mistake vic, I am poised to jump at this like an olympic sprinter. My folks live in midland, which is a country town. I had to move into charlotte when i entered the baby phase due to a deal on my condo from a family friend. After being robbed and warding off robbers, i have decided that i will no longer wait for an opportunity to move back into the sticks. I will go after it with a stick.
I live really close to Clemson, in a little small town called Six Mile. Let the deer season crowd get out of the woods. Then it will be time to hit it. PM me a phone number and we can talk over when you can come down.
VV when are you going to get to come back down this away? Hopefully I can make a hunt with you and CC this time.

Ronnie,
I have a brother in law who is a professor at Clemson and lives in Seneca. Maybe we can link up if I get down that way sometime.
Pat
Cool give me a holler when your headed this way. I only live about 12 miles from Seneca and some of my best hunting spots are almost in the city limits of Seneca.
We won't hold the Clemson thing against to brother in law.

vvarmitr , what did poor old Charlotte do to you?
My dear marsupial friend: apparently you haven't tried driving through Chaslotte. :rolleye:
Outta appreciation of you I ask that you stay clear of Charlotte cause you know how you 'possums & roads don't mix.
:laf:
VV,Ronnie, To line up a Coyote Hunt in Georgia at the Wanderosia we need to look at February or March as after Deer season we have a couple of Rabbit Hunts and there's usually a big crowd so no accommodations would be available and I would have access to more area to hunt, I haven't done any calling this season so far to try and keep from educating the young and dumb ones nor have I seen a lot of sign but have not really scouted that much. CC
vvarmitr , you rascal you. I have driven through Charlotte and all around the inner city when the Ky. team featuring Jamal Mashburn beat the ACC teams like a drum, and this old possum had no trouble at all avoiding the normal pitfalls that seem to follow my kinfolks all over our highway systems.
Now, that was in Charlotte, but I can't really say I was ever in Chaslotte. What part of the state is Chaslotte located? :roflmao: :roflmao:
That's what I'm trying to tell ya. Stay outta Chaslotte. Charlotte's evil twin. :sad3:
:innocentwhistle:
I thought charlotte was the evil one
Judging by the bastards who stole my ithi :argh:ca
Jerry caught one in Mississippi a couple years ago and yes it was a coyote and not a dog.
weve talked about the different color phases of coyotes before and hes trapped and hunted all across the country and he said he has never seen one out west, ever.
dont know why but hes trapped alot on wyoming an din colorado before they banned it there and hes never seen one out there.
hes caught a couple thousand coyotes in his trapping career too so hes seen alot of em.
any of you guys west of the Mississippi or the Rocky Mountains ever seen any out your way?

Cathryn - I have been calling for over 50 years, in almost every state of the union and not only have I never shot one I in fact have never seen one.
your not gonna believe me, but i saw one on my way home from the gun store this evening. He crossed the road at a low spot with a creek running under a small bridge. The side he came from has a huge thicket and he crossed into a cattle farm. It looked like he had the lighter color on his sides.
I've made a black yote into a hat, stupid that I didn't take a pic...
