With the inspiration of a couple forum members we are currently working on setting up a Youth Promotional Hunt Contest.
The goal;
- To inspire more youth to get involved in our board and our sport.
- Encourage them to share photos and stories as proudly as we do.
- For us to be able to answer questions for them and encourage them along the way.
The contest will be based on submitted photos of game taken by youth (ages to be determined) and a story written by the youth his or her self, must be accompanied.
I strongly advise against moms and dads, propping their children up against this years backyard buck for a photo and writing a story for them.
This contest will be based on the youths experiences and photos as he or she experienced in their own words, only.
Full details and rules will be outlined in the actual announcement upon launching the contest.
.
Right now, there's four categories being considered
- 1. Best Picture (any species)
- 2. Biggest Doe
- 3. Biggest buck/rack
- 4. Biggest Spike
As this thread progresses I believe it will be revealed that this contest is going to be very different then anything we've held so far. With some great dividends falling to each category winner. :eyebrow:
The only hint I can give right now is that FOsteology is the top sponsor of this event thus far, and for those of you that have seen any of his posts, you'll see where this is going. :eyebrow:
I'll let him, tell you the rest when he is able to.
Which brings up my purpose for this preliminary contest post. If any of you would like to contribute to this event in any way what so ever, you can help us make this contest an
even greater success, something that our youth will eagerly look forward to getting involved in, and recruit some youth to take part in our sport.
What say you's?
I like it!!
Jim
Good idea and count me in as a contributor.

Excellent! Appreciate your support.
I think its a great idea......especially the (any species) Part ....... :yoyo: :yoyo:
FOs ran this by me earlier. I'm in!
Dave
You can count on me in anyway to support this contest just let me know where I can help
Anything I can do I'll do. Young people need help and some of them even remember where they got it. :laf:
Just say the word....Be glad to help
I'm in! :yoyo:
I can provide some youth to participate. Devon wants to use his new mentored youth permit terribly !!!
Thanks all involved :yoyo:
That's wonderful that several of you are stepping up to make this first ever FnF Youth Contest a memorable success. When you have time, please PM Jim and let him know what item(s) you would like to donate to the prize collection.
I'm covering the Grand prize (to be unveiled soon....) as well as donating a couple other items.
Sounds cool. I wished I knew more kids to participate, I'm gonna have to try and think and maybe come up with some.
I think it's a good idea. Looks like there's plenty contributing for prizes, I'd be glad to come up with somethin too if needed, As long as we
have some time to get it done.
Scott
Scott, you could always quick have a couple kids :innocentwhistle: :eyebrow:
I have been waiting to post and since it looks like the calls have been pretty well covered, or I think that they will be, I am willing to kick in some money to the pot for whatever is needed.

That's kinda what I was thinkin too. So let's see what there is for entries, and go from there.
I'll be glad to do what ever, so if Jim, FOs, whoever, ya come up with somethin, let me know.
Scott
Were kind of trying to get a basic idea of what were going to have to offer, so that we can coordinate it all between the four categories.
I've only heard back via PM from two people.
What are your thoughts FOsteology?
I've only heard from HuntnCarve. He's building a call for the youth contest and once it's completed, he'll be posting a picture.
In order for Jim and I to layout the contest, and determine how many categories to include, we need to determine the prize list. Again, for those who have graciously indicated they would like to contribute/donate please PM either Jim or myself with specifics.
Much obliged!
PM('s) sent
Here's one of the prizes I'll be donating to the Youth Contest:

Kershaw's Gentleman Folder in VG-10 and Micarta. About the best off the shelf folding pattern I've seen. And it's better in the flesh.
PM's Sent.....
Another knife added:
Muela "Piranha" knife with genuine Red Stag antler. Growling coyote carved and painted on the handle by our very own HuntnCarve.

I got two calls about done for the contest. I'll get a photo up tomorrow, being that I haven't taken any yet. The first call is a Hard Maple howler in my style, with a carved and painted howling coyote head. The second call is a Black walnut mini howler, with "Fins and Fur '09" engraved on the side.
Dave
Awesome Dave, and William.
Absolutely awesome :congrats:
I'm going to go to Cabela's this weekend and pick up some stuff since I dont have any talents that interest the youth.
Well....my few talents dont interest the elderly either but... :doh2:

Plastic molded trigger guard will be replaced with an Aluminum anodized black unit.
Crown will be recessed.
Talley LW One-Piece Alloy Scope Mounts which will be lapped.
Leupold VX-I 3-9x40mm Matte riflescope with Duplex reticle
Additional pictures to follow once completed.
Holy Smokes :yoyo: :highclap: :congrats:
Very nice indeed
FO,
That is an over the top Grand Prize. I am glad to see that you share an interest in our youth and the outdoors. Also that people are getting involved with this. I have always been a firm believer in getting kids involved in the outdoors, hunting, fishing and the shooting sports. As fewer and fewer kids show interest today, I firmly believe that our hunting heritage will disappear.

I don't make anything that a kid would want, so I'm going to give three NRA Junior memberships.
Pat
:yoyo: Good idea, thanks Pat.
Looks like some really great prizes so far.....how are we going to promote this and really get the kids involved?
I mean I would love to see a bunch of kids try for this this time.....The stories could be the real prize...
I'm working on a call for the Best Pic Any Species division but I just can't get the sound out of it. Even if I don't figure it out I'll still have something to donate. It just won't be a non-working call. :nono:
HaMer you have to put a reed in the call and then you have to blow into it :laf:
:nono: Aint no stinkin reeds in this call Bill!! :nono:
Then dial the right number and a call will be made :roflmao:
:nono: I'm starting to get the sound. I'll work on it some more 1st. :eyebrow:
Thats GREAT HaMer!! Good luck.....and I expect to see it..... You know where to get help if ya need it.
You guys didnt really have to fill this page with your call making discussion did you? :laf: :laf:
Were going to try and launch this thing tomorrow night, if all goes well. Stay tuned.
I'm in for a $100 gift certificate from either Cabela's or Bass Pro.
Ok.....tomorrow night for sure
I'm getting backed up with things and got behind. :doh2: Sorry guys.
Well my original plan was to make up a nice grunt call, or bleat call, depending on what I had for guts.
After some time attempting this, I now remember the other reason(s) why I took a break from
making calls. My tools suck !! My mandrel is bent up, my little bench top drill press is a wuss, and
my bits are dull. :doh2: :madd: So considering the lack of time to remedy this in time for this
contest, on to plan B. I will be donating a closed reed call and a coaxer, that I had most of the
way done, just have to put finish on them. I'll get pictures up, and items sent in the next few days.

And by when??
I never mentioned that John. Was contemplating over the best way to do it.
I'm going to collect everything and then at the end of the contest were not holding the kids up if someone happens to be away or cant ship right away.
A few folks PM'd me on this also, I'll get back to them in case they miss this.
Ship all contributions by January 1st. to;
Fins and Fur Outdoors
Youth Hunt
330 Prospect St.
P.O. Box 411
Bloomington, WI, 53804-0411
We dont have street/mailbox delivery, being a one horse town we pick our mail up. But if anything is shipped UPS, then it's brought to the door.
Okie Dokie will do Boss
Thanks for gathering the things up Jimbo
What about shipping costs? I dont want Jimbo to be eating all of that.
I'm going to collect and ship the prizes, I'm putting this and some more info in the Prize List thread, which is in the Events Forum.
I just need a lil time to finish it up here.
I'm beating the keys as fast as I can, the phones ringing, hosting clients are IM'ing me, and someones knocking on the door... :doh2:
And you have a PM to view.
Just received confirmation on another donation that is simply awesome!
Jim as I have nothing to donate that a youth would want I'll send a check [unless you do the paypal thingy] and you can use the money to help offset expenses.
Barry
Either or is fine by me Barry. You know me  It'll go straight to them.
I'm not sure, but what we MAY end up doing with all the cash donations is div`ying it up amongst the winners, whether it be all contestants, or 1st, 2nd, 3rd places...or ?
Depending on the outcome of entries etc.
