SCcoyotehunter

Last night I was bowhunting a new stand site I set up a few weeks ago. Its a funnel coming out of some planted pines into open hardwoods. It is a great spot. I saw a small buck and a little doe. But then, right at dark I saw some movement up the trail and I knew its legs were moving to fast to be a deer. Then I noticed it bushy long tail, a coyote, I thought. It was kind of zig zagging as if it were trying to pick up the scent of whatever it was trailing. So, what is a coyote hunter to do, I gave a little lip sqeekage. And it worked, Right down the trail to my stand. He stopped at 20 yds and turned just perfectly. I slowly pulled the bow back to full draw and looked into my peep, and I couldn't see my pins anymore, it was just too dark. :madd: I'd look over at him and then try to find my pin, over and over, but then he was gone.
I can't believe I had a chance to get one with the bow and I didn't even shoot at it. Its hard to look through those tiny peeps when it gets dark, and even though I was using tru glow sights It was just too late.

That is exactly why I stopped using sights on a bow years ago.  I've had that happen on big deer.

I use three fingers under the arrow and anchor on my cheek bone.   Sight down the shaft.  Practice that a while and you will be surprised at how good you can get.   ;yes;  Of course, YMMV .

A peep with a bigger hole really helps too.
