Did a short run this evening.  Walls of icicles and such on rock and cliff faces.  This wet country has seeps everywhere and they build into ice.  It was raining, natch, and foggy.  I was hunting deer and only took a few pics.

Below is the same high waterfall I posted over a week ago when it was just starting to freeze.  Now all is frozen on the surface except the tall upper vertical section, but water is flowing underneath the ice in the lower sections.   For comparison I'll post the earlier photo again below the one taken this evening.

WOW!
Can you imagine one of those puppies breaking off and landing on the roof of your car. :doh2:

That is pretty but dangerous. I love taking pictures of ice formations. If I can find some I will have to post them

Thanks for the comments.  I kind of accidentally started a "thang" here when I took the waterfall pics.

As to danger, I've never figured out the ice climbers who specialize in climbing frozen waterfalls, even though I've known a couple of them.  Doggone, it's just ice, and ice breaks sometimes.  One of them gets killed every once in awhile of course, like the super expert ice climber did in Montana during a competition climb last week.  He got killed by a small avalanche while climbing up an approach chute or ravine from what I heard, which was triggered by some other race climbers above him.

As to falling, with all the rain today, I'll bet some of those icicles and big ice chunks in the photo have fallen already, unless it is colder there, which it might be.

The Canadian railroad bolts big steel "header" bars on at least one boxcar for wintertime freight trains heading through the Canadian Rockies.  The bar breaks icicles that hang from tunnel roofs and overhanging cliffs.  Some of them are HUGE.  That makes it safe for the dome car on passenger trains.  That trip in winter is one of the world's GREAT travel experiences.

Thanks so much again for sharing the pix.

We have a couple spots like that here, not quite that big but I'll try to get some pics later on in the winter.

Very cool...the first few remind me of a place the next county over from us. But that waterfall shot is beautiful - I love it.
