My letter to the Ohio DNR.

Hi. I'm hearing rumours about the new liscensing system. Apparently we
will be required to give our Social Security numbers. Will they be
printed on our tags? If so what is the fine for blacking them out with a
marker. What is the reasoning behind this?

Glen Shaffer

Their response.

Federal Statute 666 (A)(13) requires government agencies to record the
social security number of anyone who attempts to purchase a recreational
license.  The stated purpose of the federal statute is to improve the
effectiveness of child support enforcement.  Furthermore, Ohio Revised
Code section 3123 requires the Ohio Division of Wildlife to revoke
and/or refuse the sale of licenses to anyone in default of child support
payments, as determined by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family
Services.

The Ohio Division of Wildlife plans to make this transition virtually
unnoticeable to the majority of our customers.  In conjunction with the
Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, the Division of Wildlife will gather
social security numbers for customers who have previously used an Ohio
Driver's License as identification when purchasing hunting or fishing
licenses.  We hope to have the vast majority of social security numbers
recorded before WOCRMS is implemented.

Once a customer's social security number is recorded, we will not ask
for it again, and the customer will not be required to provide it at the
point of sale.  SSN's will not printed on any license documents or
reports, and will not be visible to a clerk performing license sales
transactions.

Currently, the Ohio Division of Wildlife does not require license buyers
to present identification. Under WOCRMS, license buyers will be required
to provide some form of picture identification, or provide some
combination of personal information such as last name, date of birth,
and last 4-digits of the social security number.

Thanks,

Michelle

The child support agency in Ohio has the laziest people I know of. They are always looking for ways to have other people do their job for them.  :rolleye:

In Ky you can use your SS# if you want, OR a government issued ID of some type, such as drivers liscense.

yeah, no Social Security number is required in KY.  Unless, you voluntarily want to give it.   :nono:

They asked for one when I bought my fishing license  so I rattled off some numbers and the lady said these don't make sense .  When I said I was from Alberta she just hit a button and presto I had a license :laf:.
