If you ever want to see the ultimate still hunter, watch a heron stalking across a marsh...they are lethal...I have seen them nail turtles, snakes, fish, frogs and even rodents...thats one wicked beak:

I watched one of them for what seemed like hours, standing in a foot of water waiting for baby bluegills to come into the shallows.

He finally swept down and nailed one and strutted up to the shore to enjoy it. It was a real site to see. Had the girls with, infact we was fishing not 50 yards from it, they were ecstatic.

I get to feed them when I go one of hte dams fishing. Any drum I catch gets thrown at teh nearest one . Watching them swallow a two pound drum is a trip. But I can promise you it does fit in there  :eyebrownod:  I want to know how in heck do they hold four or five pounds of fish at one sitting like that. Jimmie

^^^ Ouch...I sense a BM coming :innocentwhistle: Not the stinky kind either :iroll:

They are neat birds, but not very well liked around fish hatcheries for obvious reasons.

People around here spend big bucks for Koi ponds.  Someone designs the thing, a landscaper puts it in - usually close to the house so the owners can hear the water cascading over their 5 to 10K pond.  Everything looks great until the great blue's find them.  It really doesn't matter where the pond is located.  Could be part of a patio, or porch, right up against the house.  Next thing you know, a big, ugly net has to go over the whole thing to protect their Koi from getting eaten!  Homeowners are upset while they put the thing in for relaxation.
Oh yeah, and someone has to be hired to put the net in place.  Funny stuff.
