After many years of adamant refusal to hunt, my daughter earlier last year (quite unexpectedly and out of the blue) decided she wanted to learn how to hunt.

She's been interested in shooting off and on since she was around 11yo, but with her showing no interest in hunting, and being the sole lefty in the family, she made due with just a .22lr for years.

Last year I put together a 7x57mm Mauser on a Winchester SS Classic action. Rifle absolutely loves the off the shelf Federal 140gr. NP load.

Within the next hour we'll be leaving for her first hunt!  :highclap:

We'll be traveling up to a friends family ranch outside Ezzell Texas to hunt WT deer. Might have an opportunity to kill some feral hogs, and of course we'll try to call in some coyotes. Going to be a tough weekend hunt as we're expecting more rain and thunderstorms..... but we'll make the concerted effort.

Report to follow.

Have a great hunt with your daughter and may the rain avoid your hunting area.

That is fabulous!  She wants some special time with Dad.

Make it your priority for her to have a good time more than to get game or anything else!

Unfortunately the weather was uncooperative and conspired against us. We saw two young bucks Friday evening and that's it. Extremely windy all weekend (gusts up to mid 30's) and rained Saturday pretty good (2+ inches). Sunday we had a cold front come through. Dropped the tempts. from mid 70's down to low 40's.

Thought for sure the cold front would get them moving. Guess not as we saw nada. Wind was still howling.

Perhaps we'll try again the beginning of Feb. as my friends place is under MLD3 and he can hunt through the end of next month.

That brings back memories. How many times did she say, "I must be bad luck Dad?" :laf:

Her day is coming. I got a pretty good sneakin hunch that her Dad will put her on some deer :eyebrownod:
